I receive a call from them labeled "customer service".  I have no relationship with this company and I refuse to answer their calls.  I am on the "do not call list", but they don't seem to care
Report by Derrick Long ago Unknown
I received a missed call from this number. When I called back reached the automated voice advising to press 1 if I wished to be removed from their calling list. The more I thought about it, I believe this is the same number I answered a call from a few weeks back and it was a representative from an extended warranty service for vehicles; one of those "never pay for car repairs again" type of deals. I had called for information on their services ages ago, but never followed up....they were calling to see if they could interest me in a policy. At the time I was at work and advised them I may call back when I had the time. If you have looked into this company in the past at all I would imagine that's who it is. Unfortunately I can't remember the company name.

This number has been calling me several times a day, pretending to be ebay. I called eBay support twice and both reps told me that it was NOT legit ebay number and advised that I report it. It is against eBay policy to call ebay users unless there is a problem! I filed a complaint with FCC and Do Not Call!Afterwards this number called me again and her name was Stacy and she said she was calling "ON BEHALF OF EBAY" and when I told her that I reported the number she was calling from to ebay and FCC and Do Not Call, she hung up!People do not be fooled!! It is not a legit phone number! First they gain your trust with tips and then start getting into your personal info! Ebay never calls anyone, specially several times a day!!Yes, it does say how to change settings if you call it back, but I did not have those settings that way in the first place!!

I just recieved a call from this number a couple of minutes ago and I picked up. The voice was crackly enough that I couldn't even understand who it was or what they were calling about (it sounded like they were disguising their voice) so I hung up and searched the number more out of curiosity than anything. What makes me really skeptical is that I am using my dad's ebay account and I never gave paypal or ebay my phone number, they only have my dad's, so I have reason to believe that this is fraud.

I had received a few calls from this number over an 8 day period, with no messages left. Finally, I was home when they called yesterday, and the man said he was from eBay, and he was giving me a courtesy call to tell me my account could be suspended for Duplicate listings. I asked him which of my accounts was in question, and he did name one of my accounts. I asked him for specific examples and he stated he could not provide that level of detail on this courtesy call. Long and short, I pressed him for answers and he hung up on me. I called ebay customer support, who stated this was not a legit number from eBay. But he queried the number and based his statement on this internet listing.Like other ebayers listed below, I HAVE received calls from this phone number in Utah call center before, advising me of new features and how to improve sales. eBay is not always the most forthright, honest or divulgent company. I have caught them on several occasions over the years providing, incorrect or false info. I believe it was eBay.

You are correct!  I just got the suspicious call from 801-545-1800 alleging they were from eBay and wanted to ask questions about my account.  My wife took the call and said she was not the account holder and knew nothing about my account and they said they would send an email.  I checked my email and eBay, and no messages.  I called eBay's 866 number and they confirmed that no one from eBay has made contact on my account, as they have record from anyone that would attempt contact.  eBay said if they need to reach a member, they send a message through eBay's internal messaging system under My eBay.  I told him I have no messages and no emails from eBay.  He confirmed the phone call was not from eBay and it is indeed a scam.  So for those that think it is real, they are gullible as they are falling for the scam.

Actually, that's not true.  It's true if you have little to no volume of sales.  Ebay wouldn't waste their time and call a person who sells less than $1000 annually.  When I hardly sold anything, I got this call once or twice a year.  WHen my sales went to $250/month, I got it once a month. Now that I sell over $30,000 year, I get this call weekly.  If you notice, lately it is hard to contact eBay directly especially if you're not a powerseller, thru email.  They have reduced their customer reps who answer emails to.  If you're not a powerseller, you have to wait in long lines to get to a live person, and most ebayers can't wait 60-120 minutes to have a simple answer to a basic question. The explaination I was given from my powerseller rep (who also confirms this is a legit number and call) is that more than 90% of the issues and questions being sent it, the answers could be found in under 5 minutes of research using the Ebay Help system.  Sadly, unless you do a lot of volume in your sales, they make it hard to contact someone to help you.It is an Ebay call center in Utah.  I maynot be listed under "eBay" as the owner of the number, but by a company that eBay contracts to make calls on their behalf.  If you call HP support on the 800 number, your call isnt sent to anywhere near their HQ.  It used to send you to Canada 6 years ago.  Now most likely your call will be "Tom from Kansas City", but with a disctinct Indian accent.  It's a US number, but the call center is in India, so the actual location of hte call center is moot.  Have a MN phone number, but It's only takes 1 phonecall to get the calls forwarded to any number outside MN.  the location of the area code on the number is worthless info.Ebay's policy is not to hand out phone numbers to it's customers, unless it's absolutely needed, and then only for certain issues.  It's always the best advice to not answer a phone call if you don't know where it's from, but then again, you can always hang up.

Either way you look at this phone call we have been getting. The fact remains phone call solicitations are bad news these days. As my Bank, my Police Dept, My Ebay legit messages puts it: you simply do not give information over the phone and a knock at your door unless you are 100% certain who they are and what do they want. When a person on the other end of the phone calls me and asked my name I know they do not have it (well that is good advice to assume). Should this be a legit call ebay should change there business model. We have all had messages from ebay stating not to give information except on the ebay webpage and you know that is legit.

ebay is like any other major company...have you ever heard of outsourcing?  This is when  a company hires call centers to do their promoting for them.  Therefore they don't always do their own solicitations.  However, ebay also has a rep for their sellers.  The name of my ebay rep is Ron.  I am sure I am on several of their lists because I have received calls on various different things but there is not a single one that has asked me for any personal information, password, pin etc.  How is it a scam or fraud if they aren't asking for any personal information?  They'd have to get your information in order to do something...hhmmmm imagine that!!   It may be a nuisance to you that you are receiving a solicitation call or a customer service call (trying to assist you or inform you of ebay information) since you are a registered ebay user, but that doesn't constitute fraud or scam!!!  They have the right to call you because you came to them and asked to open an account, again...hhmmm imagine that!!  Any company that you have done business with in the past year has a legal right to contact you.  If you have done business with ebay in the past year they have a right to call you.  If you are a business there is no do not call list there are only do not call lists for residences.  Don't be so blindsighted by fear (of a phone call that you CAN hang up on) that you lose an opportunity to increase your ebay sales or a free listing day, or a number of things the call is trying to inform you of ...so silly to be an ostrich with your head in the ground - reminds me of the Salem Witch Trials....OMG EBay called you!!!!!!!....it's a scam, it's fruad---- omg you're the one calling me...let's burn them at the stake and call them scams and fraud for trying to build their business and yours.  seriously how ridiculous!!!!

I just missed a call from this number.  I used the cell number they called to activate my account a few minutes ago, so I don't know who else from Salt Lake City would have called me within an hour of activating my eBay account.  So, to everyone who thinks it's a scammer, and not to say that I can't call anyone I want using ebay's number as my outgoing caller id, I highly doubt it was anyone but eBay unless they JUST gave my cell number to someone else.  Caller ID "spoofing" only costs me $3.99/year--I only use it for business purposes, not posing as someone else, but it wouldn't be hard for someone to pretend to be eBay.

For me, same number, Laura from eBay just letting me know about a GivingWorks workshop.  Sounds like a callcenter where they read a script.  I wouldn't recommend giving anyone you don't know your bank account number or personal information over the phone anyway, especially if you don't solicit the call.

I got a call today that left a message about ebay...however i do have an ebay store.  i did just reach my power seller level a few days ago and on my sellers page it tells me i need to call to discuss increasing my selling limits, etc. This is not a scam.  The reason it is not a scam is because it is not asking you for any information.  The message was just informative, letting me know of specials for ebay stores on listing prices etc.  Everything directed me to ebay.com (my ebay or manage my store).  Nothing asked me to call anyone or what my credit card info was or anything about my sales figures...just told me to go to ebay.com and look under selling tools and a couple other things.  Also there actually IS a real number to contact ebay.  It took awhile to find it but I found it under resolve an issue.  Don't know if you can find it if you don't have an active item or not.  I have called ebay and talked to them in December and they also help with paypal.  (I had an issue with a refund that had not been paid) Of course you have to verify yourself to ebay for your account.  If you want to call ebay they have a phone number but you have to contact them online first to get a pin code and that pin number is only good for 15 mins.  Always best to be cautious though...soo many scams out there but this one is actually legit.

Call the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and your State Police. When they call back, tell them that you are aware they are running an extortion ring, have notified the authorities and hang up.Kudos to "Sam" for giving the most intelligent and informative posts on this scam. READ, Bookmark and use as needed:http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-631-456-4041/2I have been receiving phone calls from this group since late April / early May of 2010.  There is a good chance that they also attempted to contact me roughly two years ago before I entered into Chapter 7 Bankruptcy protection, as I faintly remember hearing the same script more or less.As others have stated, the callers are difficult to understand.  Generally speaking their command of the English language is quite poor and their accents are hard to follow. At times they will get certain words or phrases mixed up.  It would be funny if it wasn't for the fact that they had:a) Your SSNb) Your home addressc) Your work addressd) Your banking infoe) Names, numbers and potentially the addresses of "references"f) A complete and total lack of ethics and a basic understanding of the FDCPA.  I have personally filed reports with the following agencies, often with limited (if any) success:Local Policemy state's Attorney General's officeFTCFBISecret ServiceGenerally the local police won't be able to help much.  The callers are using a combination of prepaid cell phones and VoIP, making them difficult to trace.  Also at their disposal are various spoofing tactics being implemented to catch people off guard - meaning the number that appears on your Caller ID isn't the number that is calling you for starters.  Without gaining a subpoena for the billing information for the numbers in question, the local police won't be able to get very far.  My state's Attorney General's office couldn't offer much assistance either.  I received a form letter in the mail that my complaint was received and I would be contacted if they needed additional info.  It was more or less the same information I obtained from the FTC.  They each advised me not to give the individuals over the phone any account information or to authorize payment.  That's just common sense, though.I never got anything from the FBI, either.  There is a good chance that since I haven't suffered a monetary loss that my concerns are low on the totem pole.  I hate to say this, but that is truly the case. Unless you were in the hole for a $1,000 (or more) you aren't going to get much more than "sorry to hear about your situation, change your phone number and move on".  I seemed to get some activity from the Secret Service.  I spoke with agent Doug Zloto. (Google him, referencing threads like these plus his name and you'll find his number also)  He seemed to care a bit more than the average person, but after giving him access to my Google Voice account, there has been no further activity from him that I'm aware of.In the meantime I changed the wireless number the fraudsters had access to, they have no direct way to get a hold of me.  (Calls at work have ceased for some reason)  That in turn resulted in my "references" getting phone calls from the crooks.  Here is a word of caution for women that have been getting these calls - don't say anything and just hang up.  The callers are quite abusive towards women callers.  Why?  Possibly the culture.  If they are Indian / Pakistani, women are second class citizens there.  You will be treated like garbage.  This happened to a family member when she was trying her best to be extremely nice over the phone.  The callers currently attempt to reach me through the female family member and an unused Google Voice number that they managed to find of mine.  I keep the Google Voice number open because, well, I can't delete it yet.  So, about every day, 4-5 times a day for the last week, I get voice messages from them.  It's usually just two full messages though - the other calls are broken up with static or they are attempts to read the script until the callers then screw up.  Really, they are that adamant on getting the script 100% that they will hang up mid-sentence and call back 30 seconds later.  At this point it's a stalemate with these people.  1) While they have the lion's share of information on us, they can't really do anything with this information.  Why?  Think about it.If they were to ever take funds out of your account without authorization, it's fraud and worse (for them) it is traceable.  That's why they won't do anything with your information, contrary to threats they make.  The money from your account has to go somewhere, and either your bank or a law enforcement agency can determine where the money was routed.  As a bank customer you are protected - you'd get the stolen money back in your account after 7-10 business days and the bank would be temporarily out the funds deducted from your account while they conducted their investigation.  The bank, along with law enforcement, would track down the fraudsters and apprehend them.  The fraudsters do not want to incur the wrath of a bank, just extort money out of you.  Remember that.    Your authorization would absolve the bank from any and all liability, leaving you holding the bag.  Never give them authorization for anything - for all you know the call is recorded.  2) We have no information on them.Seriously, this has been going on at least since 2008, possibly longer than that based on some accounts. (6 years??? Holy crap!)  You would think someone would have slipped up by now.  Sadly, they haven't.  We can continue to grow our own intel on them and compile lists of aliases and phone numbers used, along with paraphrases of scripts used in order to educate other victims.  I'm actually putting together a site now in the meantime where I'll host audio files and lists of previous numbers used.  800notes.com is great, but no two calls are exactly the same.  It would be nice to have a site dedicated to the scam and how it works. So that's where I am with these calls.  I have suffered no monetary loss, though I have been harassed both at home and at work.  They threaten me with arrest and other "fun" things in order to get me convinced I have to pay them.  My friends and family have been targeted and local and federal law enforcement agencies haven't been able to put a stop to things.  So, it is what it is.  I am out a wireless phone number I had for roughly six years, which is terrible since I was using that line when looking for a new job.  Whenever I'm bored I spoof my number using Google Voice and return the calls.  I've called them the poster children for birth control, etc.  Basically a lot of nasty things that I'm sure the moderators here wouldn't appreciate me repeating - bottom line nothing nice.  I always like to close saying their parents must be real proud knowing their sons weren't man enough to get real jobs.  That usually gets a decent response.  Way I see it - they can't do anything to me. (Despite a threat yesterday that my life would be f'ed up)  They can threaten all they want but my credit is frozen and my bank information has changed.  I've changed the only number they could really access me directly on and I've instructed my employer and family to not answer the calls.  I just call and harass them now when I find a few extra seconds.  What's the worst they can do to me?  Charge me with harassment?  Nope, then they would have to identify themselves.Oh, and don't bother contacting Cashnet USA about the calls.  Their "fraud" department could honestly care less.  Their "investigation" is merely a means of buerocratic CYA.  I would even be surprised at this point if actual law enforcement is involved in any shape, way or form at this time.  There is a good chance that the information these crooks have on us was obtained from Cashnet USA - either from a database leak or from a collector that was once authorized by Cashnet to call on delinquent customers.  The other chance is they have access to Teletrack, and pulled all of our information off of there.http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-646-274-1143/3For at least the last four years, possibly longer, a group has been calling former payday loan applicants advising them that they have defrauded a bank and are now being sued for non-payment of a loan.  The callers will claim to be calling on behalf of an attorney's office (name varies), the Dept. of Law and Investigation, ACS, or other similar combinations below:United Legal Processing DivisionMidline MarketingCrime Monitoring ServicesMonetary Crime DivisionU.S. National BankAttorney General’s Office (usually in California)American Legal ServicesAffidavit Consolidation Services (ACS)You will be threatened with arrest, a costly trial and possibly worse.  In no shape, way or form can you be arrested for non-payment on a consumer debt.  Do not believe these threats, as they are without merit and cannot be carried out in the manner they allege.  Who are they?In the past when pressed by law enforcement for an address, the callers have provided the following information:David Morgan and AssociatesMorgan & AssociatesMorgan Associates954-727-84811155 Northwest 85th StreetWintergarden, Florida  33150(Address is likely invalid)The collector's MO matches a once legit collections agency called Ellis Crosby & Associates.  Here are some links on them:http://www.budhibbs.com/collectorpages/ellis_crosby_and_associates.htmhttp://www.budhibbs.com/collectorpages/EllisCrosbyJudgment.pdfThey have been previously fined over $1.3 million for various violations.  They have been known to use phone banks in India to make their calls, which more or less coincides with the difficult to understand accent many of us detect when we are contacted.  The last time this group went by any "official" name was back in 2008:Ellis Crosby & Associates / Douglas & Morgan Associates4494 Southside Boulevard Suite #200Jacksonville Florida 32216Phone:  800-928-3536 / (904) 928-3536(Address is likely invalid)There are NUMEROUS consumer alerts out against this group of individuals:Florida:http://jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/061107/met_176207561.shtmlKansas:  http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2010/01/ks_debt_collection.htmlColorado:  http://www.coloradoattorneygeneral.gov/press/ ... lls_likely_origRhode Island:  http://www.collectionscreditrisk.com/news/rho ... -3002135-1.htmlWest Virginia:http://www.wvago.gov/internetloanscam.cfmMissouri:On July 15th, 2010 a Public Awareness Bulletin was sent out by Missouri Information Analysis Center.  "..received reports from individuals in Ohio and Illinois reference suspicious telephone calls they received. When a return call is made, the caller is asked to provide personal identifying information such as their date of birth and social security number.Reports indicate that the calls are frequent and persistent and that they even threaten arrest or legal action if information or money is not provided. It appears that the individuals making these calls may have access to some records connecting individuals and their relatives.  Missouri does not have a Financial Crimes Unit and all indications are that this is a fictitious agency. If you receive a similar phone call, please be advised that it is a scam and please contact your local law enforcement agency or the Missouri Information Analysis Center at 866-362-6422."Bottom line:Do not supply the callers with any additional information.  Inform them you have reported them to law enforcement and hang up.  If you haven't already, go ahead and report the calls to local law enforcement, your state's Attorney General and beyond.  Look up the local Secret Service branch's information in your area and get in contact with an agent there.  If you ever applied for a cash advance online, your information is out there.  Possible sources for the breach of your privacy are:* The scammers obtained your information from Teletrack - a reporting agency used by many cash advance lenders to determine their risk lending to you.  The service is able to tell cash advance lenders if you have existing loans with other companies, for example.  Many state laws prohibit borrowers from having more than two cash advances out at the same time.* The scammers created their own fake payday loan application site.  People looking for a cash advance went to the site and applied, thus freely providing the scammers with their information for malicious use at a later time.  * The scammers were able to get into the database(s) of cash advance lenders - probable targets being Sonic Payday and Cashnet USA.  How to protect yourself:* Inform your employer.  You are likely getting calls at home and/or at work, so make sure your employer is aware the calls are part of a scam and to not take them seriously.  Advise the callers that they are no longer allowed to call you at work.  If they continue to call, document the date and time of the calls you received.  Save voice mails left if at all possible.  * Change your number(s).  For some this may not be an option, for others a one-time number change can be done free of charge.Be advised - any references you listed on your payday loan application will be contacted.  Let those people know that this is a scam, and they can disregard.* Use Google Voice.  Google Voice is a great replacement voice mail system for just about any phone number you use.  Messages can be transcribed and voice mail recordings can be saved as mp3 files.  Pro Tip - call the scammers with a Google Voice number before turning off your old phone numbers.  Make sure when you call you identify yourself so they can start up their script.  At any point after they have your information pulled up just hang up.  They will then start religiously calling your Google Voice number.  At this point, you are free to change your regular phone number(s) and enjoy not having these people ever call you again.  (And laugh at the fact these people are basically talking to a brick wall several times a day)The scammers change their numbers frequently.  Law enforcement used to think it was because the callers ran out of minutes on their prepaid wireless accounts or they were shuttered due to fraud, but now they understand it's simply to evade detection by savvy consumers online.  With the proliferation of VoIP, it's even easier for the crooks to stay a couple of steps ahead of law enforcement.  Below is just a sampling of the 30+ numbers that have been used in recent memory.1-201-244-77221-209-349-73821-209-797-22121-212-500-08391-213-256-04081-213-995-30391-281-763-04331-347-289-39021-347-844-68171-347-844-68311-424-354-42701-516-232-89051-516-232-89351-518-212-02191-561-300-80181-561-210-41851-626-200-46461-631-456-40411-646-274-11431-646-810-86351-650-241-46041-707-401-40561-707-633-27891-708-401-05351-716-442-28241-717-862-40801-718-705-86691-760-514-01321-760-563-53841-772-318-49381-850-201-11111-858-777-19771-859-908-22811-866-860-45091-877-226-74881-888-706-74631-888-771-92491-888-785-44791-909-327-48701-831-607-92141-972-674-37531-646-918-52111-206-202-49421-206-337-79921-206-339-82181-561-318-04461-585-250-80901-347-827-09211-607-398-07251-909-233-73381-888-610-54861-585-861-99401-909-233-73381-646-416-90161-805-262-61701-661-270-67241-561-705-01401-310-807-02201-347-637-64731-951-582-48321-909-503-06821-818-579-76911-347-321-64971-206-666-36111-206-203-07121-347-875-84181-347-875-96001-206-629-93921-818-532-90071-310-853-34911-347-377-73681-321-300-40911-866-840-20301-760-588-22071-845-360-09201-415-259-50251-347-637-64521-818-275-45391-707-673-94751-214-446-53721-512-646-20021-210-892-26661-909-451-09411-407-444-14001-646-719-9237So can they really do anything to you? It's not a simple yes or no answer.  Logic dictates that, if they really wanted to take you for a ride and drain your bank accounts, they already would have.  So, why haven't they?  Authorization.  Why do you think you are being called so much?  Perhaps it is because they like the sound of your voice?  No, they have to have your authorization to take any form of payment from you, period.  The callers know their audience, and that audience is typically a bunch of people that have applied for payday loans in the past.  Most of those people they call couldn't afford an attorney if they wanted one, and are so used to receiving collections calls that so long as they sound like a real collector, they will likely be perceived as one.Furthermore, they don't even really want to talk to your attorney - that just sounds official and scary enough.  A real attorney would take the callers to task and write them off as two-bit con artists.  The callers need you, in writing, to authorize payment against the fictitious debt they claim you owe.  Go ahead, ask them for proof you owe the debt - more commonly known as verification of debt.  See what they say.  A phone authorization carries very little weight, so if they have something signed by you on file, you are done for - and the callers know that.  That authorization is the only thing these callers are doing by the book, and for good reason.  If they just went all willy nilly and made an ACH debit from your checking account, without your written approval, you could in turn report the transaction as fraudulent to your financial institution.  In about 7-10 business days, you would get the funds returned to your account.  Then the scammers would be up against a bank and their team of lawyers and investigators.  Bottom line:If you haven't paid the callers a dime, don't.  If you planned on paying them to shut them up, just don't.  Remember - you are not being contacted by a legally licensed, ethically owned and operated collector.  Read up on the FDCPA - http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf - and know your rights.PS--The FBI sent out a Press Release on this scam just last week:Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday LoansWashington, D.C.December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office(202) 324-3691— filed under: Press ReleaseThe Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started. The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers. Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller’s instructions. Rather, you should:Notify your banking institutions.Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:Never give your Social Security number—or personal information of any kind—over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers. When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statementshttp://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/paydayloanscam_120710Caller: FBI

Well, if you're not the one's actually making the call, I'm surprised.  Read above.  If you owe money, they have to take you to court, PROVE IT'S YOU AND YOUR DEBT, and then you may have a problem.  An attorney might not even do you much good.  They must:  provide written proof to the court, and to you.  They must prove they can do business in your state.  They must prove that the debt isn't past the collection date.  Somehow, if you're not working for them and just posting some pathetic bogus message (and quite honestly, that's where I'm going here) I don't think you have much to worry about.  A legitimate company would have your contact info and would have done all this already.  So either find another line of work, or just show up to your local courthouse (they have to serve you where you live, not where their office is) and handle it.

They call all the time.  A month ago I answered and they asked for my husband and would not talk to me about the matter.  I later received a "safety violation" ticket from Maryland.  I paid the ticket and assumed that is why they were calling.  They continued to call, I answered and they once again would not give me any information but somewhat agreed it was about a ticket.  We owe no parking tickets.  My husband tried to call them back but was put on hold 25 minutes. Got to be a scam.

Hi, I did the same as you, my ex husband passed on the message to me, and I called but would not give any information to the lady who picked up the call, she too got upset with me so I hung up.  Since my supposed parking ticket non payment I have renewed my Drivers License several times, if you do not pay tickets the DMV fail to renew and hold your license.  All this is total crap and very annoying!

I keep getting a recorded message saying that there is a message which requires my immediate attention and that i need to call this number 1-877-501-9923. After about 6 such messages which i deleted each day since the caller did not identify himself or the company he represents, I finally called back but from a different phone and after choosing not to enter my phone number when the recording prompted me to, the female who answered my called got very upset at me when I asked her to tell what company she was speaking for and what does the company do. She kept saying that she could not tell what the call was about unless i give her my phone number. I pointed out that she was not answering my question and that i insist on knowing what this outfit does, she began to shout at me and then  ended the call by yelling "Have a good day"!Amazing.

I've gotten about a dozen calls from these clowns in the last month, in which they leave a message with just a phone number to call back but otherwise no info about even who it is that is calling. I finally called them back today and requested that they don't call me anymore, and I also submitted a complaint for each separate incident to the national do not call registry.

They always leave a voicemail, no scam, everyone is always polite and informative. Yes its probably a call center but its definitely eBay. If you are signed up on eBay or ever have been, they will probably call you every once and a while. Cheers!

I received a call today as well. From my research, I found that it IS indeed a scam. ebay's website does not provide a contact phone number, and if they did, it would not start with area code 801. Plus, the guy on the phone was trying to reel in information from me the moment I answered. Those commenting above who say this is number is credible could very well be lying. So prove it. Where's your proof?????

It is not a legit phone number! First they gain your trust with tips and then start getting into your personal info!

Not true!  I've sold on eBay for 13 years and have been called several times by legitimate eBay employees to see if I was interested in selling tips, etc.  They have also called when they are running a special rate for certain listing features.  They don't call every seller, but they do call, particularly if you are a power seller.

This number is Ebay and when you call it it tells you they call to give information to members. There is no further action required if you receive a call from this number. I foolishly agree to the "gifts" and sales approach. My wife gets home and proceeds to admonish me for aforementioned foolishness. I deserve. I explained they were sending a sales person with said "gifts" the next evening along with a sales pitch. She told me to call them back and cancel. I called the above number back and it is constantly busy (surprise, surprise). I called the local police (non-emergency number) to find out if they have heard of any scams recently such as this, they said “not yet”.The young sales person gets to my door in a 4 door Dodge pickup (newer model), and I explain that I am no long interested and he tries to stall by saying he has to call in to tell them he was out here. I said "good luck with that" and went back inside and watched him leave. No sooner does the salesman turn the corner at the end of the street, and I receive a call from Amber again (this time from 719-635-8209). She asks coyly, "did a sales person arrive at your home yet"? I explain the details of what has transpired and she becomes defensive and says they have been in business since 1940. She tells me the full name finally and says they are Silver King International (SKI on the caller id). I look this name up and find the following site:http://www.silverkingvacuumcleaners.com/This is a very simple site to set up on a larger choice mall site. This is obviously a low overhead sales outfit geared to dupe uninformed buyers. However, I don’t want to see anyone get swindled so take this for what it is worth. http://www.blagger.com/db4/company_id/3663/co ... ernational.htmlThis is a blog on their sales tactics and approach.DO NOT get duped. Long and short, I pressed him for answers and he hung up on me. I called ebay customer support, who stated this was not a legit number from eBay.

Not true-ebay calls power sellers at least once a month for Seller Development. The phone number is legit, you can contact ebay themselves for verification.

No it's not a fraud - it happens to be the way eBay does some of their marketing.  Good grief, I've never seen so many mis-informed paranoid people.  eBay calls it's sellers, particularly their power sellers to advise them of changes or promotions.  They do not ask you for any personal information or passwords.

FRAUD ALERT! BEWARE! This is a FICTITIOUS telephone number used for supposed eBay marketing calls which DO NOT originate from eBay! The voicemail left on my cell phone went like this:"Hi, my name is ... and I'm calling in reference to [your eBay User id here]. I just wanted to let you know that eBay is making changes to it's trading assistant program. You must create new profile by February 11, 2008 in order to remain in the directory. Please go to: ebaytradingassistant.com. Thank you for using eBay."All legitimate eBay web pages will have ebay.com/ in the web address. The address provided above does not originate from eBay. If you do a simple Google search for "eBay trading assistant", this URL does not appear as one of the top sites! You can also double check by logging into your eBay account, searching for "trading assistant" and making a note of the URL from there.
