This number continues to call my private, unlisted number that is also listed on the do not call registry list.  They call all times of the day and night.  They refuse to give the name of their business and the purpose of their call.  They have been told they are calling a private, unlisted number and to cease calling, yet continue to call.  How can I report them to the authorities and make this harassment cease?

They were calling to tell me about medical compensation due me and wanted me to answer a couple questions.  I told them to stop calling me that I knew this was a scam.  I could hear other people talking in the backgroung that was of another language other than english.

I also got the same call. An Indian guy calling me on my cell and at working claiming that I would be arrested if I didn't pay $872.00 or make payments arrangements right then. I asked him the company I owned that too and he couldn't give me an exact answer. He was just talking fast and loud. He also said his name was Stanly Marshall, gave a badge number and said don't talk to anyone else about paying for this bill unless I talk to him first. I hung up on him and called the FBI local office in Dallas and they said don't give them any information or just don't answer the phone.

Claimed to be an FBI agent in NY ... made statement similar to Jay's situation above ... they wanted about 3k for something I knew nothing about  ... I got his "badge number" and called the REAL FBI to ask ... they verified was fake  and this scam is common.  The REAL FBI suggested if they called again to ask the caller to meet me at my local FBI field office (a really good idea!) ... They called 4 or 5 more times after this and it was upsetting me so much I had my number changed.   Because FAKER had a lot of personal info, I submitted a fraud alert with Experian ... they will also transfer the alert to the other two credit reporters  ...

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story? The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize; refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number; asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency. If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you. Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing. Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name. Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt. Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.> http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt076.shtm

I just got three calls on my cell phone today. First one from 610-886-1205 from "Officer Victor Logan". Next two calls were from "Officer Daniel Stewart" from 646-484-8982. When I returned the call, I got the same threats. Supposedly I owe $300 for a payday loan I've never had, and they were sending someone to arrest me because three felony charges were filed against me, including check fraud and money laundering. I kept arguing with him, and demanding verification, and he finally hung up. But the freakiest thing was that he has my correct name, address, and social security number.

I have received calls from this number twice, once about a month ago and another today (11-9-10).  The first caller identified himself as Officer Robert Jones and today as Officer Paul Smith.  Both of them tried to convince me that I had had a payday loan and had refused to pay it when it became due.  The first tried to get me to settle for $350 and the second for $750.  They threatened me with 3 felony counts one of which included money laundering.  They told me I would be arrested if I did not settle the debt right away.  The first one my husband called back and threatened to get the Greene County Sheriff involved and he hung up.  The second did not hang up when threatened with this.  He lied and told my husband that I had agreed to settle the debt the following morning which was not true.  They evidently get people to pay these bogus loans by threatening them.Jackie Morris434 985-3673

My employer calls me on my cell to tell me that some guy Officer Harry Lawerence called my work and said that I needed to call him back asap to avoid being arrested for multiple warrants.  MY WORK!  So, I call from 610-886-1205. Some guy answers, very think accent, I ask for Harry Lawerence, I get put on hold on some guy named Officer Sam Adams says he is Officers Lawrences supervisor and procedes to tell me that he has issued 3 warrants for my arrest for not paying a cash advance loan from US Cash Advance.  I tell him that I didnt have a loan from them.  He gets very mad and starts saying that I need to listen to him and stop interupting him.  He states that at 5:30pm today, I will get arrested at my address of PO BOX ******.  (Really?  They arrest you at your PO Box and tell what time?  Red Flag!)  He states all of my personal information including my DOB, SS#, Bank account routing and account number.  When he is done with his little speech, he says "are you ready to settle this to avoid being arrested?".  I say that I dont have a cash advance out, have never taken one out, and don't know what he's talking about.  He yells at me and says that I will be arrested tonight!  At 5:30pm.  (Kept telling me the exact time...another red flag.)  Then he hangs up on me.  I call my local police dept and report it.  They are contacting the FBI and BBB.  They advise me to call my bank.  So, I do.  Now, I have a new account number and a bunch of headaches...since I have direct deposit and do all my bill paying thru automatic payments.  Great! I am so pissed!  The girl at work who took the original call, called me later and said she googled the phone number and it was a scam. So, I get home and google it, and these guys have been doing this all over the US!  Don't wire them money!!!!!  ITS A SCAM!

"Officer" Jack Adams (with a thick foreign accent) calls my work # to tell me that I have 3 criminal allegations against me for a payday loan & they are sending the local police to come & arrest me..Ok, so I go along with it because of the fact that he can't tell me what the debt is. He told me after some unsavory words between us that he did not want the money anymore, he wanted me to rot in jail and the police will be at my door tomorrow morning. He even verified my address & my social sec #! I told him to go ahead & send the police & he hung up on me. After boiling over this, I called him back & spoke to him & said Mr Officer, I don't want to go to jail, please tell me what I need to do to get this resolved & he told me again that it's too late and he hung up again. So I go about my business, and low & behold, he calls back & I answer & he asks to speak to my "superior", and I said, "you want to speak to God?", he called me a b**** & hung up, but called right back again & asked again to speak to my superior's boss, so I patched him thru to a co-worker, he proceeds to tell her that I owe this debt & when she told him not to call me at my place of business, he curses her out & says that this b**** (me) is going to get arrested & hangs up! But the kicker of the whole story is when a # pops up on my phone & the caller  id indicates it's from my local police dept! I pick up the phone & the caller identifies himself as an officer with my local police dept. I give the phone to another co worker who proceeds to ask him questions as to what this is in regards to & what do they want with me. When my co worker asks him, in an attempt to make small talk, "so you work with Sheriff _____?" the caller didn't even know who that was..lol. I then get yet another call from Officer Adams who then asks me if I want to resolve this outside of court & I said yes, please tell me the charges. He finally tells me who the debtor is & the criminall allegations against me & asks me how I want to settle this. I'm sorry, but after all this harrassment & bull****, I had to play along.. I acted like I was so sorry (because I called him an a****** earlierl). I put him on hold so I could get a pen ? & called a friend of mine who happens to work at the police dept (hehehe). When I got back on the phone, I told "Officer" Adams that my "brother" Officer ____ was also on the line & introduced him to my police brother. When questioned by the real officer, Adams said he wasn't actually a police officer but had a "security" license?? What the hell?? When we told him this call was being recorded, he hung up!! That's the end...I hope...!

A person by the name of Sam Johnson (which I'm sure is NOT his real name) keeps calling my work and my cell claiming I owe over $1000 from a payday loan.  When I asked him who the loan was through he couldn't give me a specific name.  All he said was that they work with over 41 different payday places.  He can barely speak english and he speaks so fast which makes it's extremely difficult to understand him.  I kept trying to clarify what he was saying and he asked me if I was deaf or stupid.  Then he kept hanging up on me, but would call me right back and told me that he didn't like my person.....What?  He continues to threaten me by saying the local cops are coming to arrest me and that he's going to call my HR department and have me fired.  Well if I were to lose my job, how would you get any money????  It's sad how they continue to do this to people, especially when the economy is so bad right now.  I mean I'm barely living from paycheck to paycheck and imagine if I had sent these scammers some money, how worse off me and my family would be.  It's very pathetic and something should be done to stop these people.

Here's another one to add to the list - a Matthew Scott (first contact) who then changed into a Robert Kelly - United Financial Crime Division - 696-396-9684- supposed address 130 E. 39th NY NY - I cut him off at the pass by informing him that the moment to make any threats about arresting me all I'm going to do is contact my state's AG as this type of behavior is against the law. They probably know this, but it's really all you can do. THERE IS NOT A STATE IN THIS COUNTRY THAT WILL COME AND ARREST YOU FOR A BAD DEBT.  and the really pathetic thing about this is that the scammers are probably using a computer VoIP and are calling from some third world country.

Consumer Alert: Attorney General warns Kansans of debt collection scamJanuary 29, 2010 -- Attorney General Steve Six is cautioning Kansas consumers about telephone calls from apparent fake debt collectors who are impersonating law enforcement officers in an effort to extort money from consumers.   Consumers are warned to not submit payments to these fraudulent debt collectors. When calling, the scammers most often state they are attempting to collect a debt related to an internet payday loan obtained by the consumer, but which the consumer never repaid.  Consumers state they have never obtained such a loan or paid off the loan years ago.  The scam artists have most recently identified themselves as ACS, National Affidavit Processing Department and United Financial Crime Division, but may use additional phony names.  It appears the phone numbers used by the scammers are “spoofed” numbers, so that the number appearing on a consumer’s caller ID is not the actual number of where the call originated. It appears the calls in question may be originating from outside the United States. When questioned, the individual calling refuses to disclose the full name or address of the collection agency they claim to represent.  These scammers have been able to provide consumers with identifying information, such as the consumer’s social security number, home address, e-mail address, names of family members and the consumer’s computer IP address.  Since the callers are able to provide valid personal information, consumers may become confused and believe they are being contacted in regard to a legitimate debt.If the initial debt collection scam is unsuccessful, consumers have been re-contacted months later with the scammers posing as law enforcement officers or officers of the court.  Typically, the consumer is threatened with arrest for fraud or some other fictitious crime unless the consumer agrees to immediately wire money via Western Union.  The fictitious officers strive to frighten and confuse consumers into compliance by using legal sounding terms such as “We’re filing an affidavit against you” or by stating a lawsuit has been or is in the process of being filed against the consumer.A hallmark of each scam has been calling consumers repeatedly at their place of employment.  This scam hit home when an employee of the Kansas Attorney General’s Office was repeatedly called both on her cell phone and at work.  Despite the employee’s repeated verbal disputes, the caller refused to provide any identifying information to allow her to send a written dispute. The scammer also continued to call her numerous times a day regarding a payday loan she denied obtaining. Two months later, she was again contacted by telephone by an individual identifying himself as an “officer”. “I denied owing the debt and refused to pay without being provided validation of the debt. I was then told, ‘If that’s the case, I will have local law enforcement come to your place of business and drag you out kicking and screaming’,” stated the employee.“It is important for consumers to know their rights under the law,” Attorney General Six said. “If a consumer is receiving calls from a debt collection company and believe it is a scam, I encourage them to contact our office immediately.”Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), collectors are required to send consumers a written notice within five days of the initial contact.  The notification should contain  information such as the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed and a statement informing the consumer they have thirty days to contact the debtor in writing to dispute the debt or request validation of the debt. In addition, legitimate debt collectors are prohibited by the FDCPA from making false or misleading representations, such as the consumer has committed a crime, implying nonpayment will result in the consumer’s arrest, or using the threat of violence.More information is available on the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act at http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf. Just got a call no valid caller id. The only way to fix this is to change the law so the telephone companies that own the number provide valid caller id information. They know who they have licensed the number too as they are sure to collect their payments. They whole reason for the spoofing is the licensee provides their own branch equipment and lies on the caller id.

A "Gary Stone" cold-called my place of work in an attempted to get information about other areas of the company, as well as recruiting questions of me.  Very annoying and not very professional, since I've never given-out my work phone number as a contact.

I got call from this number from unknown man who left a message.  He said he has a complaint against me from a local court and he wants to discuss with me. It was a strange message; sound like someone wanting to strong-arm me and instill fear to give them some $$.
