Don't count on it.  They may not call for a while but trust me, they will call again.  I never answer the phone when I do not recognize the number that appears on my caller ID.  Fortunately I do not discuss my financial "anything" with "anyone" over the telephone so I have never been burned by scum like this.  I don't anwer anymore because I am fed up to my eyeballs with people calling my phone that is unlisted and unpublished for a reason.  Not to mention "protected" by the National Do Not Call Registry (for all the good that does, yuk, yuk!)  I got rid of my business line because you still pay for the call if your answering machine picks up the call.  So it is just my personnal phone and I let the answering machine answer the call.  If they are so hungry for money and they are legit they can leave a number and I will call them back if I want to.  They never leave a message so I saved myself some time not answering the call.  I see the number and I go back to doing what I was doing.  Less than 2 seconds wasted.  I don't have to listen to some foreign speaking person irritate the heck out of me for wasting my time.  Life is good this way!
Report by SpyderBite Long ago Unknown
By pressing "1" or even calling back and speaking to somebody.. you are only confirming an active phone number which they can turn around and sell to other telemarketers at $.25 a pop. Think twice before reacting to unknown numbers. Its always best to ignore or even better add to your block list if your phone service permits. (Comcast for example allows up to 13 #'s to be blocked for up to 90 days).

WRONG. Registration on the DoNotCall list does not expire, EVER.If you go to thr registration website, this is what you will see at the very top. Know what you are talking about prior to making a bad information post!Your registration will not expire. Telephone numbers placed on the National Do Not Call Registry will remain on it permanently due to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007, which became law in February 2008. Any transaction intended for the sole purpose of having a telemarketer STOP calling fails to establish an existing business relationship. Of course, some of the sleazier telemarketers like to pretend all sorts of things.....like, calling to make a Do NOT Call request.....gives them permission to call. Or, a call which is not answered by a live person is not a call. There are lots of these really absurd lies fostered, promulgated, generated, and otherwise lived by telemarketers.Oh, here's a good one:Consumer, talking to a caller: "Put me on your Do Not Call list."Caller: "We can't do that. You have to go to  (web site) or call (phone number) to be put on the government's Do Not Call list."Which, of course, is an admission they violate the law. The one which REQUIRES them to have an *internal,* company specific Do Not Call list, and to put the numbers of all who request to be on that list, on that list.
Report by Arnie Long ago Unknown
Taking your number from a website is hardly illegal.Business numbers are not covered by the DNC.
Report by joe Long ago Unknown
Technically if you ever filled out a form and gave someone your phone number they can call you unfortunately in my circumstance these lead guys crawled the web and took my business phone number off of the website which is completely illegal!!!!
Report by Resident47 Long ago Unknown
That's absurd. An outright sales call hitting a DNC registered number is instantly violative. If you haven't actually traded money for a good or service you have no "business relationship". If this were not so it would be impossible to implement a no-call program in the first place.
Report by jdmeaux Long ago Unknown
DONOTCAL.gov list is only for 5 years.  But telemarketers can "accidently call your number", and since NOW you have done business with them, they are allowed to call you.
Report by ditto Long ago Unknown
Yes it is, check the website and see if your number is there, it should never expire.

Report by Urban Legend Long ago Unknown
Sorry, TK, but you're wrong in several ways. The biggest, I'll save for last.First, a conjecture of my own. This idea was posted by a telemarketer. If they can keep you from calling and having your number removed (A far better request is, "Put us on all Do Not Call lists." That ensures that, if they use a different calling list later, they won't call again.) from their current calling list or put on their internal DNC list, they can keep calling. And, maybe, eventually....actually talk to someone who will actually spend money. So, it's not in our best interest to listen to folks like TK. (Could that stand for "Telemarketing Knucklehead?") If you read that a number gives a removal option, then it's worth calling to request that. There are several reasons to do it; several reasons why TK is wrong. And, at least one good reason not to believe the "advice." If it's good advice, it won't be followed with mere hope. It will invoke some authoritative source, or include information widely available, such as you'll find in this post. Nobody says, "You should unplug your phone immediately (I hope it works)." if they have any good basis for the idea. They'll explain why you "should" do it.Calling the telemarketers back does NOT ALWAYS mean they learn about "active," or any of TK's other notions -- like calling you more. Many (99%?) of the telemarketers who say to do something like press one to get your name off of their list will simply take your number off of the list. No, I have not a tiny clue if it's 99% or .9999% of them who will do the right thing. But, TK doesn't have a clue either. The point is, TK's premise is pointless. The game has changed in recent years. First, most legitimate companies scrupulously follow the law. Second, the others don't give a fig whether you call and let them know a number is active. They will either keep calling, or they won't. Either way, they're not going to waste resources on trying to figure out whether or not your number is active. Third, there are far more accurate ways to verify a phone number, if a company wants to do that.Think about it. Some telemarketers call a million times a week. Others, a million times a day. If only one percent of the recipients call back, then they have only verified 10,000 numbers. Meaning that 990,000 of their calls were pointless. It makes no sense to abandon that huge number of prospects just because they didn't call back. Wouldn't it make more sense to just keep calling and not worry about any sort of callback? They don't care if someone at the number tells them it is working or not. Why?Here's the kicker; the reason TK's claim is so wrong. If it's a dead number, the telephone company will notify them immediately -- DURING THE FIRST CALL. So, the fact that the phone rang...and didn't cause the phone company "disconnected" tone to sound....means yours is a working number. Even if you've unplugged your phone. The caller will still get a "ringing" indication on the line, and won't have any way to know if there's a phone plugged in, or not. (Try it, some time. TK obviously didn't.)There are ways we can play the particular SIT (special information tone) which means the number is disconnected or no longer in service. If they don't "hear" it when they call, they automatically know they called a working number. If we play it, the equipment assumes it's not a working number and deletes the number. Problem is, some things we can buy, like the Telezapper, play an annoying tone that our friends and family have to listen to. Plus, telemarkters have begun to have their equipment ignore such tones. But, the bottom line is that, if a company wants to know if a line is active or not, this call-back/number removal scheme would not be very efficient or effective, and SIT tones would work better for them.              SO, GO AHEAD AND CALL THE CREEPS. That's the only way they'll know to stop.If you can get a live human on the line, act interested in the product/service/scam/whatever. Play along. Don't demand, up front, any information. Let them play their game. As they do, you can play them like a fish on a line. Find out who they are, where they're located, etc. BEFORE telling them to stop calling. Then, come here and tell the rest of us.And, if it's a number removal line with no options, they'll remove your number. Simple. Paranoia, fear, anxiety, conspiracy theories, etc. won't change that. In the meantime, conjectures don't help anyone. Unless you've got some personal issue which is mollified by pretending to know stuff for which there is no source you can cite. Or, as I've suggested, you're a telemarketer who profits from confusing people. Here's one source of information about special information tones, and there are a lot of others online:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_information_tones

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/phantom-debt-co ... 16512428&page=1http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2012/08/bgm.shtm

He says his name is Rodney Pinder  and his email address is: rodney.pinder@yahoo.com. You can tell by the way he writes in all the emails that he sends that he is not an American or else he is uneducated.  This is the address he is using.Rodney Pinder1830 Ring Neck DrRochester, MI 48307Call (224)2200648rodney.pinder@yahoo.comHe places orders for printing and also places orders for t-shirts as well. Here is how it probably works:They place the order with your company, then they pay with a fraud check for the product and then pay you for the shipping, which they always pay way way extra to entice you to make the deal.  Then you go through their shipping freight co. and pay them directly with your money! So what happens at the end is you get arrested for cashing a fraud check and you loose your money from the product production and the shipping. I own a T Shirt Shop and got a order online today.  The person wanted 800 tees with No print on them.  We never get an order like this.  We sent an invoice to pay online and the order changed to 500 shirts & wanted to know if we take credit card over the phone.  So we ask the person to call us to verify the order.  They called using the phone number (224) 220-0648 from IL. but said they were in CO.  We were ask to ship them to  Denise Korte 17388 Nature Walk Trail,PARKER, CO 80134.  We feel strongly that this is a fraud.  They may be using a stolen card to get shirts.  Why t shirts?  I do not know.

There was a charge of 1800.00 on my visa card recently, and it was used to place an order at a t-shirt shop in New York. After talking to the owner, he was willing to give me the Pennsylvania address the shirts shipped to...and interestingly enough, the phone number given for the order was (224) 220-0648. And so far there is NO luck in finding out exactly who the shipment went out to even though the t-shirt shop guy gave me the name and mailing address...

This number was from Rob Robinson and wanted  a large quanity of shirts and was willing to pay 3 times the going rate and was more interested having me run a CC number than getting the shirts.actually gave me a CC number . after looking it up and checking his IP address location, a lot didn't match up.  Called Chase in which card was issued and reported attempt of use and found out card not listed in his name.
