Was badgered for about 15 minutes by a guy from this number who claimed that he was an attorney trying to collect a debt from 2002. He spouted off all the information that he had on me to include my current employer, my wifes name, all my credit cards/auto loans and the amount that I had been paying on them. Told me that they had sent me multiple letters and that they were "giving me a chance to pay" the debt before suing me. Any question I asked him was met with rudeness, yelling and threats. I asked him who he worked for & he replied," Im an associate, I dont work for anyone!" He told me that I had 1 hour to pay the debt or I had better start looking through the phone book for a good attorney. He did not want to disclose any information regarding who he was. I asked for a number to cal him back after verifying who he was and he hung up on me. I called back the caller ID number from a different phone & spoke with an "associate." I asked her what this company was to which she replied "CRA." I asked her "what exactly is CRA and what do you do?" Then was hung up on again. These people can kiss my a$$. The statute of limitations has passed on this debt, whether mine or not, so All I have to say to them if they read this is...If you want to take me to court, thats fine, Just spell my name right & be ready for one hell of a fight.

I received a call from this number on my work line which I do not give out to creditors mind you... They claimed to be from a legal processing center and process paperwork. Good thing I know I have no pending or possible legal issues or I would have fell for it. I have been living in my home for 2 years and have had the same cell number for 8 years so I KNEW this had to be a scam. I will be reporting them to the BBB and the state office for harassment on a state office line...

they purchased an old beyond statute of limitations debt for pennies. When they come upon an informed consumer who does not fall for their BS, the write off the FULL amount of the debt in dollars (hundreds or thousands)Then File FALSE 1099C income reports with the IRS.  So the IRS then comes after you for unreported income.  ITS NOT INCOME.  Not even the original creditor can file 1099c on charged off accounts.  ITS PURE BS AND NOT VALID.  ITS JUST A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL THE IRS STOPS THIS PRACTICE. So they falsify their income writing off dollars when they only lost pennies and they try to make trouble for you with the IRS.  Follow the instructions below and file complaints.  Its the only way to stop them File complaints with Federal Trade Commission  https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=enYour State Attorney General State Attorney General is every state they have offices Link to all State Attorney General Websites www.naag.orgIf you or they are located in NY – use this SPECIAL Link  www.NYDebtHelp.comThis special website was created by NY AG Andrew Cuomo specifically for reporting illegal debt collection practices.  HE’S CRACKING DOWN AND SHUTTING THEM DOWN!Also report your calls and contacts with debt collectors at http://www.budhibbs.com/index.html  If the company is listed under agencies – report there. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, enforces the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), which prohibits debt collectors from using abusive, unfair, or deceptive practices to collect from you.Under the FDCPA, a debt collector is someone who regularly collects debts owed to others. This includes collection agencies, lawyers who collect debts on a regular basis, and companies that buy delinquent debts and then try to collect them. Here are some questions and answers about your rights under the Act.What types of debts are covered? The Act covers personal, family, and household debts, including money you owe on a personal credit card account, an auto loan, a medical bill, and your mortgage. The FDCPA doesn’t cover debts you incurred to run a business. Can a debt collector contact me any time or any place? No. A debt collector may not contact you at inconvenient times or places, such as before 8 in the morning or after 9 at night, unless you agree to it. And collectors may not contact you at work if they’re told (orally or in writing) that you’re not allowed to get calls there. How can I stop a debt collector from contacting me?If a collector contacts you about a debt, you may want to talk to them at least once to see if you can resolve the matter – even if you don’t think you owe the debt, can’t repay it immediately, or think that the collector is contacting you by mistake. If you decide after contacting the debt collector that you don’t want the collector to contact you again, tell the collector – in writing – to stop contacting you. Here’s how to do that:Make a copy of your letter. Send the original by certified mail, and pay for a “return receipt” so you’ll be able to document what the collector received. Once the collector receives your letter, they may not contact you again, with two exceptions: a collector can contact you to tell you there will be no further contact or to let you know that they or the creditor intend to take a specific action, like filing a lawsuit. Sending such a letter to a debt collector you owe money to does not get rid of the debt, but it should stop the contact. The creditor or the debt collector still can sue you to collect the debt. Can a debt collector contact anyone else about my debt?If an attorney is representing you about the debt, the debt collector must contact the attorney, rather than you. If you don’t have an attorney, a collector may contact other people – but only to find out your address, your home phone number, and where you work. Collectors usually are prohibited from contacting third parties more than once. Other than to obtain this location information about you, a debt collector generally is not permitted to discuss your debt with anyone other than you, your spouse, or your attorney. What does the debt collector have to tell me about the debt? Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money. Can a debt collector keep contacting me if I don’t think I owe any money? If you send the debt collector a letter stating that you don’t owe any or all of the money, or asking for verification of the debt, that collector must stop contacting you. You have to send that letter within 30 days after you receive the validation notice. But a collector can begin contacting you again if it sends you written verification of the debt, like a copy of a bill for the amount you owe. What practices are off limits for debt collectors?Harassment. Debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse you or any third parties they contact. For example, they may not:     use threats of violence or harm;     publish a list of names of people who refuse to pay their debts (but they can give this information to the credit reporting companies);     use obscene or profane language; or     repeatedly use the phone to annoy someone. False statements. Debt collectors may not lie when they are trying to collect a debt. For example, they may not:     falsely claim that they are attorneys or government representatives;     falsely claim that you have committed a crime;     falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit reporting company;     misrepresent the amount you owe;     indicate that papers they send you are legal forms if they aren’t; or     indicate that papers they send to you aren’t legal forms if they are. Debt collectors also are prohibited from saying that:     you will be arrested if you don’t pay your debt;     they’ll seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages unless they are permitted by law to take the action and intend to do so; or     legal action will be taken against you, if doing so would be illegal or if they don’t intend to take the action. Debt collectors may not:     give false credit information about you to anyone, including a credit reporting company;     send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency if it isn’t; or     use a false company name. Unfair practices. Debt collectors may not engage in unfair practices when they try to collect a debt. For example, they may not:     try to collect any interest, fee, or other charge on top of the amount you owe unless the contract that created your debt – or your state law – allows the charge;     deposit a post-dated check early;     take or threaten to take your property unless it can be done legally; or     contact you by postcard. Can I control which debts my payments apply to? Yes. If a debt collector is trying to collect more than one debt from you, the collector must apply any payment you make to the debt you select. Equally important, a debt collector may not apply a payment to a debt you don’t think you owe.Can a debt collector garnish my bank account or my wages? If you don’t pay a debt, a creditor or its debt collector generally can sue you to collect. If they win, the court will enter a judgment against you. The judgment states the amount of money you owe, and allows the creditor or collector to get a garnishment order against you, directing a third party, like your bank, to turn over funds from your account to pay the debt. Wage garnishment happens when your employer withholds part of your compensation to pay your debts. Your wages usually can be garnished only as the result of a court order. Don’t ignore a lawsuit summons. If you do, you lose the opportunity to fight a wage garnishment. Can federal benefits be garnished? Many federal benefits are exempt from garnishment, including:     Social Security Benefits     Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Benefits     Veterans’ Benefits     Civil Service and Federal Retirement and Disability Benefits     Service Members’ Pay     Military Annuities and Survivors’ Benefits     Student Assistance     Railroad Retirement Benefits     Merchant Seamen Wages     Longshoremen’s and Harbor Workers’ Death and Disability Benefits     Foreign Service Retirement and Disability Benefits     Compensation for Injury, Death, or Detention of Employees of U.S. Contractors Outside the U.S.     Federal Emergency Management Agency Federal Disaster Assistance But federal benefits may be garnished under certain circumstances, including to pay delinquent taxes, alimony, child support, or student loans. Do I have any recourse if I think a debt collector has violated the law? You have the right to sue a collector in a state or federal court within one year from the date the law was violated. If you win, the judge can require the collector to pay you for any damages you can prove you suffered because of the illegal collection practices, like lost wages and medical bills. The judge can require the debt collector to pay you up to $1,000, even if you can’t prove that you suffered actual damages. You also can be reimbursed for your attorney’s fees and court costs. A group of people also may sue a debt collector as part of a class action lawsuit and recover money for damages up to $500,000, or one percent of the collector’s net worth, whichever amount is lower. Even if a debt collector violates the FDCPA in trying to collect a debt, the debt does not go away if you owe it.What should I do if a debt collector sues me?If a debt collector files a lawsuit against you to collect a debt, respond to the lawsuit, either personally or through your lawyer, by the date specified in the court papers to preserve your rights. Where do I report a debt collector for an alleged violation?Report any problems you have with a debt collector to your state Attorney General’s office (www.naag.org) and the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov). Many states have their own debt collection laws that are different from the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Your Attorney General’s office can help you determine your rights under your state’s law.For More InformationTo learn more about debt collection and other credit-related issues, visit www.ftc.gov/credit and MyMoney.gov, the U.S. government’s portal to financial education. The FTC works for the consumer to prevent fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair business practices in the marketplace and to provide information to help consumers spot, stop, and avoid them. I just got a call from Mr. Sitton.  When I asked him if he was with a collection agency he started yelling at me that he will file a 1099C if I did not agree to pay ASAP.  I tried to find out what kind of debt and what kind of company he was from & how he came by my mobile number.  He was just continued to yell "what don't you understand? Pay or I will file a 1099C".  Then he hung up on me!  I did a redial on him and he became more upset and refused to answer my questions.  Does anyone know anything about this company filing 1099C on debt that the statute of limitations has expired?

If you receive a call from this number, you have been called by junk debt / collection agency that buys debt from original creditors that has been written off or settled and is beyond the statute of limitations in most states. They are trying get the money for themselves, not the original creditor. They are reportedly a serial violator of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). This number has been calling me several times a day, pretending to be ebay. I called eBay support twice and both reps told me that it was NOT legit ebay number and advised that I report it. It is against eBay policy to call ebay users unless there is a problem! I filed a complaint with FCC and Do Not Call!Afterwards this number called me again and her name was Stacy and she said she was calling "ON BEHALF OF EBAY" and when I told her that I reported the number she was calling from to ebay and FCC and Do Not Call, she hung up!People do not be fooled!! It is not a legit phone number! First they gain your trust with tips and then start getting into your personal info! Ebay never calls anyone, specially several times a day!!Yes, it does say how to change settings if you call it back, but I did not have those settings that way in the first place!!

I had received a few calls from this number over an 8 day period, with no messages left. Finally, I was home when they called yesterday, and the man said he was from eBay, and he was giving me a courtesy call to tell me my account could be suspended for Duplicate listings. I asked him which of my accounts was in question, and he did name one of my accounts. I asked him for specific examples and he stated he could not provide that level of detail on this courtesy call. Long and short, I pressed him for answers and he hung up on me. I called ebay customer support, who stated this was not a legit number from eBay. But he queried the number and based his statement on this internet listing.Like other ebayers listed below, I HAVE received calls from this phone number in Utah call center before, advising me of new features and how to improve sales. eBay is not always the most forthright, honest or divulgent company. I have caught them on several occasions over the years providing, incorrect or false info. I believe it was eBay.

Actually, that's not true.  It's true if you have little to no volume of sales.  Ebay wouldn't waste their time and call a person who sells less than $1000 annually.  When I hardly sold anything, I got this call once or twice a year.  WHen my sales went to $250/month, I got it once a month. Now that I sell over $30,000 year, I get this call weekly.  If you notice, lately it is hard to contact eBay directly especially if you're not a powerseller, thru email.  They have reduced their customer reps who answer emails to.  If you're not a powerseller, you have to wait in long lines to get to a live person, and most ebayers can't wait 60-120 minutes to have a simple answer to a basic question. The explaination I was given from my powerseller rep (who also confirms this is a legit number and call) is that more than 90% of the issues and questions being sent it, the answers could be found in under 5 minutes of research using the Ebay Help system.  Sadly, unless you do a lot of volume in your sales, they make it hard to contact someone to help you.It is an Ebay call center in Utah.  I maynot be listed under "eBay" as the owner of the number, but by a company that eBay contracts to make calls on their behalf.  If you call HP support on the 800 number, your call isnt sent to anywhere near their HQ.  It used to send you to Canada 6 years ago.  Now most likely your call will be "Tom from Kansas City", but with a disctinct Indian accent.  It's a US number, but the call center is in India, so the actual location of hte call center is moot.  Have a MN phone number, but It's only takes 1 phonecall to get the calls forwarded to any number outside MN.  the location of the area code on the number is worthless info.Ebay's policy is not to hand out phone numbers to it's customers, unless it's absolutely needed, and then only for certain issues.  It's always the best advice to not answer a phone call if you don't know where it's from, but then again, you can always hang up.

This is a legitimate call from eBay. I, probably like everyone else posting here, am a Powerseller. They call frequently (maybe once every two months) to let me know about promotions, how to increase sales, etc. I have been getting the calls for about 18 months. I also attended eBay on Location in Chicago where they discussed the calls. This is LEGITIMATE.

Either way you look at this phone call we have been getting. The fact remains phone call solicitations are bad news these days. As my Bank, my Police Dept, My Ebay legit messages puts it: you simply do not give information over the phone and a knock at your door unless you are 100% certain who they are and what do they want. When a person on the other end of the phone calls me and asked my name I know they do not have it (well that is good advice to assume). Should this be a legit call ebay should change there business model. We have all had messages from ebay stating not to give information except on the ebay webpage and you know that is legit.

ebay is like any other major company...have you ever heard of outsourcing?  This is when  a company hires call centers to do their promoting for them.  Therefore they don't always do their own solicitations.  However, ebay also has a rep for their sellers.  The name of my ebay rep is Ron.  I am sure I am on several of their lists because I have received calls on various different things but there is not a single one that has asked me for any personal information, password, pin etc.  How is it a scam or fraud if they aren't asking for any personal information?  They'd have to get your information in order to do something...hhmmmm imagine that!!   It may be a nuisance to you that you are receiving a solicitation call or a customer service call (trying to assist you or inform you of ebay information) since you are a registered ebay user, but that doesn't constitute fraud or scam!!!  They have the right to call you because you came to them and asked to open an account, again...hhmmm imagine that!!  Any company that you have done business with in the past year has a legal right to contact you.  If you have done business with ebay in the past year they have a right to call you.  If you are a business there is no do not call list there are only do not call lists for residences.  Don't be so blindsighted by fear (of a phone call that you CAN hang up on) that you lose an opportunity to increase your ebay sales or a free listing day, or a number of things the call is trying to inform you of ...so silly to be an ostrich with your head in the ground - reminds me of the Salem Witch Trials....OMG EBay called you!!!!!!!....it's a scam, it's fruad---- omg you're the one calling me...let's burn them at the stake and call them scams and fraud for trying to build their business and yours.  seriously how ridiculous!!!!

FRAUD ALERT! BEWARE! This is a FICTITIOUS telephone number used for supposed eBay marketing calls which DO NOT originate from eBay! The voicemail left on my cell phone went like this:"Hi, my name is ... and I'm calling in reference to [your eBay User id here]. I just wanted to let you know that eBay is making changes to it's trading assistant program. You must create new profile by February 11, 2008 in order to remain in the directory. Please go to: ebaytradingassistant.com. Thank you for using eBay."All legitimate eBay web pages will have ebay.com/ in the web address. The address provided above does not originate from eBay. If you do a simple Google search for "eBay trading assistant", this URL does not appear as one of the top sites! You can also double check by logging into your eBay account, searching for "trading assistant" and making a note of the URL from there.

FN scammer calling from a FAKED non-working/disconnected number.Robo-Call about "Obama Home Help" and mortgage modification - this is another UPFRONT FEE SCAM by foreigners to rip off consumers.   They want you to give them access to either your credit/debit card info or your checking/banking info so they can "process" your paperwork. In plain English, that translates to KISS your MONEY goodbye. They want to hook you for $995.00 in ONE payment, or $1,500.00 in 3 payments - they offer that $500 discount to get you to authorize a one time charge if at all possible.   Then they take your money, tell you to stop paying your payments - then they disappear with your cash.   You're SCREWED by the time you realize they aren't doing anything about your situation - you're even farther behind than you had been and these guys just put you way deeper in the hole with no relief.Keep in mind that UPFRONT fees are, and have been, ILLEGAL since January 2011.They can NOT charge you for ANY mortgage modification services or "package" or "document preparation" until YOU the consumer has in their POSSESSION a WRITTEN and ACCEPTABLE offer of modification from your BANK that is acceptable TO YOU.   Otherwise, NO money changes hands.Scammers are robo-calling everyone and their brother trying to get a quick buck off of desperate people, and even though common sense should tell them better, some are falling for this scam - or these baboons wouldn't still be calling.IF you have been the victim of one of these scams - and you PAID by a CREDIT or DEBIT card you need to call your card issuer and DISPUTE the charge as fraudulent.  Have the charge reversed, file complaints with the FTC, your State Attorney General's office.

Its eBay. not a scam. I have been an eBay seller for over ten years. They use this number for contacting  eBay users.

Don't be so blindsighted by fear (of a phone call that you CAN hang up on) that you lose an opportunity to increase your ebay sales or a free listing day, or a number of things the call is trying to inform you of ...so silly to be an ostrich with your head in the ground - reminds me of the Salem Witch Trials....OMG EBay called you!!!!!!!....it's a scam, it's fruad---- omg you're the one calling me...let's burn them at the stake and call them scams and fraud for trying to build their business and yours.  seriously how ridiculous!!!!

that number is legitimate.  I just called Ebay (used their number from their website).  Spokesman said it is used for promotion purposes.  IT IS LEGITIMATE.  I asked them to disable my phone number.  Today is March 19 2012.

I got a call today that left a message about ebay...however i do have an ebay store.  i did just reach my power seller level a few days ago and on my sellers page it tells me i need to call to discuss increasing my selling limits, etc. This is not a scam.  The reason it is not a scam is because it is not asking you for any information.  The message was just informative, letting me know of specials for ebay stores on listing prices etc.  Everything directed me to ebay.com (my ebay or manage my store).  Nothing asked me to call anyone or what my credit card info was or anything about my sales figures...just told me to go to ebay.com and look under selling tools and a couple other things.  Also there actually IS a real number to contact ebay.  It took awhile to find it but I found it under resolve an issue.  Don't know if you can find it if you don't have an active item or not.  I have called ebay and talked to them in December and they also help with paypal.  (I had an issue with a refund that had not been paid) Of course you have to verify yourself to ebay for your account.  If you want to call ebay they have a phone number but you have to contact them online first to get a pin code and that pin number is only good for 15 mins.  Always best to be cautious though...soo many scams out there but this one is actually legit.

No it's not a fraud - it happens to be the way eBay does some of their marketing.  Good grief, I've never seen so many mis-informed paranoid people.  eBay calls it's sellers, particularly their power sellers to advise them of changes or promotions.  They do not ask you for any personal information or passwords.

****This IS from eBay.****I just received a call from them telling me their new holiday features to my eBay Store, etc. They did not ask me for 'anything' or refer me 'anywhere', itwas strictly for my information. The changes they mentioned are accurate because I had already noticed them. ****This 'is' a ligit call from eBay Services.****

And also where a lot of pfishers are.  Everyone...take Ebay's advise that they themselves post online.  We won't ask for passwords, etc.  Same w/pretty much every other reputable company.  They don't call and ask you for things that they already have, and don't need.

I received a call today as well. From my research, I found that it IS indeed a scam. ebay's website does not provide a contact phone number, and if they did, it would not start with area code 801. Plus, the guy on the phone was trying to reel in information from me the moment I answered. Those commenting above who say this is number is credible could very well be lying. So prove it. Where's your proof?????

I've gotten a couple of calls from this number this month, it does say Ebay on my caller ID but when I answer it's a recorded message saying to check my messages, that there was a problem with a payment (I haven't won anything since Dec. and I'm not selling anything either) when i check my messages, there is nothing there.  I'm not sure what the deal is.

This is the third random number in the last week that has called my cell phone. All three of them have been reported on this site. I haven't answered any of them or had them leave messages but at least one of them has also called my home phone and left a recorded message about renewing my auto warranty before it expires. These all seem to be scam-type companies and according to the reports I've read on this site if anyone does ever talk to a person, they are incredibly rude. It is so annoying to get these types of calls on my cell phone--I already get enough of them at home!

I get this call from whoever the insurance company is, the thing is I have good credit. I told the woman who answered that I am not interested and I have good credit. And that is when she went on to say something similar to this "Yeah, you and about 50,000 other people do if you aren't interested then just hang up like this" and the woman hung up on me. I found it very rude
