I have received the same call about 3 times now. All the times I have declined to give my information (although the first time I gave them my name). I asked, "If you are calling on behalf of bell why do you need my name?" He responded "it is for security purposes."So I gave him my name. Then he asked for my address, at this point I was getting suspicious. I responded with, "if you are confirming this for security reasons, please tell me my postal code." He couldn't so I hung up. They have call about 3 times now and I just wanted to check the number out on goggle. Thank goodness for this website! A big hint was why are they calling from Ohio if it is a Canadian company?Anyways, here is the scam posted on the Bell website:Telemarketing Fraud. I have received two calls from this phone number.  The caller claimed to be from Bell offering me a free cell phone.  I told them I didn't need a new phone and hung up and instantly called Bell.  I was told by Bell there was nothing they were going to do and nothing could be put on file anywhere to warn Bell users about this scam.  That in its self is a crime when the mobile provider will not help protect their own customers.  I usually ignore numbers I don't recognize but the first time I received the call I didn't look at the number when I answered.  100% of the time if you do not recognize the area code let it be a missed call as it is always going to be a scam.  If the call is important enough they will leave a voicemail as scammers never leave voicemail.

I've done the same thing as Chauncey. I have received two calls from these fraudsters and I have just reported the phone number to phonebusters/RCMP.Again, it's either this number or 331. Do not give out any personal information to these people. Bell does not use outsourced agents to contact customers in regards to promotions and these callers were definitely from the Philippines or India.

Yess... I feel like such a moron. The guys said he was calling from Bell/Solo. They were selling this great package with a free phone. I told them I was waiting to purchase the iphone from Telus... they then put me through to a "manager" and he stated that if I was to switch providers, he would give me the iphone for free.I got excited... so stupid.I proceeded to give my address, dob, and.. for the credit check, my SIN.He told me his authorization manager would be calling me back and I was to say "YES" to everything and then hung up on me.All of a sudden.. sick feeling.. SCAM.They did call back.. both times the number was 331.. I didn't even look the first time.The guy continued to confirm so I started grilling him on the iphone, Bell's release date and of course, the data plan that I would need to use the phone that they didn't even mention.He laughed and told me to stay with Telus and hungup.This morning I called phonebusters 1-(888)-495-8501 (or website: www.phonebusters.com) and reported the incident. I also had to call Equafax and Trans Union to have a note placed on my credit file to report and suspicious inquires or actions.Honestly, I rarely get calls from any company.. so I wasn't even thinking. They caught me off guard.. and if it's happened to you, make sure you contact the above mentioned phone number and email and report them.

This phone number called claiming to be from Canadian discount cell phone provider Solo Mobile.Solo Mobile does not "randomly" select clients to contact.Also, when asked for a call back number, the agent on the other line refused to give me one.I am very familiar with the major cell phone providers here in Canada and can assure you that this particular number is a "scam".Please do not provide any sort of personal information such as Credit Card or Social Insurance number to them.Good luck!

I got four calls within five minutes time today.  The first one asked for Julie, said you have the wrong number.  Second call asked for Julie, said you have the wrong number.  Third call, when I answered, they slammed the phone down.  The fourth call left a voice mail saying someone was going to be discharged in about 20 minutes and gave me a number to call back, again leaving a message for Julie.  These calls came from Huntsville Hospital.Then, about two minutes later, I get a call from someone saying this is "the bank" and asking for Julie.  This call originated from Progress Bank in Huntsville.  I told her that this was not Julie's number, that I have had this number for over five years.  The call from Progress Bank was probably a friend of the person that was calling from Huntsville Hospital just checking the number.  I don't know why the first call didn't end this harrassment.  Wrong number is wrong number!!!!

Yes this is GE Money Bank, which also uses the number  937-534-2092, which are numbers originating in Florida which is where the monthly statements come from.   GE Bank is one of the Banks that gives businesses promotions for their customers at zero % interest, but all the interest for the entire amount is charged if the balance is not paid off in one year.  Rarely does the salesman present all the facts about this account since they are more interested in making the sale.   One can only wonder what kind of additional incentives they are receiving from GE Bank.l Your account may have initially had another name which then got changed to GE Bank, ours did.  The salespeople clearly have an interest here to help them make their sales and dont tell you important facts that the interest rate is 29.9% !, ...that this is more like a credit card company (the monthly statements are the same and this is an opened account not a one time promotion), that the HQ is or was based in Thailand, that the monthly payments minimum on the statements couldn't possibly pay off the amount before the 1 yeaq is up.   The salesmen dont tell you that this is really more like a credit card and that the interest amount is 29.9%.Talking to a representative doesnt get you anywhere since they have little authority and are reading off a script and are probably totally unaware of how the person got pulled into such a bad promotion and misleading contract.    The representative we talked to said that they would cut the final interest payment in half!!! if we paid that amount, which is still exorbitant for a very small balance that may have crossed their 12 month deadline (which they clearly want you to miss).   This is equivalent to a thief who says if he gives you half of the stolen items back only if  you wont have them arrested.   When you tell the representative to close the account they warn you that this is permanent.   This is ridiculous, since you didn't want an account to start with, and clearly from a company, whose representatives dont tell you all the facts  especially the 29.9% interest rate.   Clearly the attorney general, better business bureau, etc need to be notified of them scam.   As I see it there is no contract with this company since it was not represented completely at the start.  If the facts were presented I would expected that almost every customer would use their creditg card or checking account instead of getting involved with this unscrupulous company.We paid off the total balance by month 13, and have not intention of paying off the interest charged for a year on the opening amount which would be about 30% more.

I was one day late last month, they added a $25 late fee to my $33 payment.   I always pay more then the amount due, to pay it down faster.   When I made this month's payment I paid $50, but $58 was due.  When I scheduled the payment I didn't have the new bill.  (electronic banking).   I got an email on a Friday stating I was late $8, I went on line and sent $10 electronically from by bank account.   Monday and Tuesday, they called constantly, 9 times.   Since I had already paid I did not answer, they are persistent.   They do not take into consideration that if I had made the $33 payments, I would have paid $330, with the extra payments I have paid over $600.   Geez!!   Do they think I am a deadbeat?  I am going to pay this off and I am done with GE Money!

if you have told them you cannot receive calls where you work, then do not hesitate to file a complaint with the FTC consumer compaints division.have a log of when they called your work, the dates and times you told them not to call your work, and include this with your complaint.they may ignore it, but once you have the complaint filed, you can then proceed to file suit where they can be fined (into your pocket goes the money) $1500 PER CALL after that. So, the calls are annoying?keep a detailed record of when they call, (DATE, TIME, NUMBER CALLED, NUMBER CALLED FROM), did they leave a message, name on the message, did they cost you any money by calling you (minutes spent), cost you any money to return the call (not a toll free number), conversations had with persons at the company if you answered the call (GET NAMES!!!!!!!!), mailing addresses, main office address, any and all details about the conversation. Record the conversation.notify them before they begin speaking that you are recording the conversation for accuracy and note taking. By continuing the conversation, they agree that express and implied permission to record the conversation has been given. Ask them to please state their name and the company they work for. Then you speak your name, and the time and date of the call. If you noted the number, mention that on the recording. With this information on the tape, yo can use it when filing complaints or legal actions.without it, it would be up to the individual state law regarding wiretapping as to the legal use of the recording.  If you record the conversation, or even if you tell them you are, they will hang up.

If you are receiving calls from  800-292-7508, and  937-534-2092 they are the same GE Bank.   The calls are automated and usually ask you to identify yourself.How you became involved with GE Bank and other names they have used in the past isn't the point.  Some of the ways may have been through misrepresentation through this bank and its representatives.Suggestion:   If you find these calls harassing, unnecessary, etc. put a block on these two numbers and get caller ID.     Whatever you do dont be led into giving your name and personal information to the callers.Report these numbers to the Better Business Bureau and other official agencies.   Clearly over the past few years any reading of internet articles shows the unfair and misleading practices used by banks and credit card companies.   This one needs to be added to the list.

In regards to telephone calls that are harrassing you, do go online to www.donotcall.gov and register ALL your phones, including your cell phone. This is a federal website with lots of answers concerning aggravating calls, also. You can also make a complaint to them by listing the time and date and phone number of that caller. You can also block phone numbers through your phone provider, with a fee on your phone bill. Hope this helps other people.

GE Bank solicits honest businesses to do their dirty work.   The business people, dentists, doctors, salesmen, etc. aren't trained by GE Bank to give you all the facts, such as penalties on claimed promotions, higy interest rates, terms of the account, etc.    In the case of 0% promotions it is even worse if they account isn;t paid off completely in one year.   The businesses owners just see GE Bank as another way to get paid faster or to make a sale.   Unfortunately you are then left with a company, had you known all the facts you never would have gotten involved with to start off with.Being overdue or late on credit cards with reputable banks, credit card companies happens due to bad financial times and other real problems.  Usually these companies will work with you.   Unfortunately GE Bank is not one of them.  So beware.

You sound like you are on the side of the collector.  Its either you are one or you know of someone who is.  Some of them call so many times to the point that it borders on Harassment. By answering their call will not solve the problem of someone calling you over and over again. You number will just be passed on to another collector to call you again and again.You are WRONG in what you said about collectors are polite, majority are not because its all about who is the most effective with getting customers to pay their bill for that week or month, all about the quota. You wrong..They are stupid, specially the  GE Money lenders, they call , and call, and call,and, call, and,call, and call, and call , +  +++ + +++  Even when people wiill let them know that will make a payment in one week, they will continue calling..Also, if a person is no able to make a payment on time,there is a 30 dollars fee, just because being late, what the hell they are calling ,,,and calling, when they are charging 30 dollars, if a person does not make a payment on time, that mean have no the money,and that mean willcharge them 30 dollars fee..why ? still calling, and calling, ??? there is no sense,al least wait a few more days to see if people will pay or not,because people dont get pay everyday st they work place, only if you will be selling tacos on you neigborhood !!!! They are supposed to call between 9a and 9p.  Funny, GE calls between 8am and 11pm.  I paid my balance in full.  Have the bank statement and cancelled check to prove it.  They do not stay within the confines of the law threating me with liens and calling me a liar.  I too used to work receivables and NEVER harrassed or insulted anyone.  Our AR balance went from over 120,000 down to 34000 in three months.  Our customers loved it when I called.

I tried that...I answered the phone and explained I just lost my job and will not have any money until my unemployment benefits are approved and that would be at least another 2 weeks.  They said they would make note of it and I wouldn't be called for at least another 10 days and she said the calls would start again at that time.To my shock the calls started right back up the next morning bright and early and continued throughout the day on my land line AND my cell phone.  They just alternated back and forth between phones like it was some kind of game.  I could almost time when the other phone would start ringing.  So even if you talk to someone you may not get anywhere with them.  I just gave up and don't answer.  When I get the money I will pay my bill off just as fast as I can, cancel the account, and run that card right through my shredder...matter of fact...I think I'll run it through the shredder right now!  I don't plan on using it anyway.  Bombs away!!

I, like you,believed that respect gains respect.  My experience so many is that they have one mode: I can b e nastier than you and outlast you.  Not every debt collector has been that way, but at least 70 percent have, including my local hospital.  Since I am not independently wealthy and live paycheck to paycheck, Stage 4 cancer racked up some financial hell for me and my family.  It seems to be incredible to some of the 22 people we owe that $25 per bill is all we can afford and still feed my kids.  Guess what my priorities are?  I am not going to allow some sleazeball kid who has never experienced a moment of responsibility in his/her life to tell me how life works and THAT is the attitude I deal with.  No I don't answer any more, in the interest of my Christian leanings.

Mary, Here is the solution I use. I give all my creditors a trac-phone number. When they "Think" they are harrassing me into paying, I let the minutes run out on the trac phone and go buy another one. Good luck trying to find me. As with my experience with GE Money collections, the last 2 callers had a very deep Indonesian/Pakastani accent. So bad, I could barely understand what he was saying. Here is my opinion, when an American Company outsourses overseas, when Americans are in the employment line, then they can wait for their money, in the very least, get someone on the phone to whom I can understand.

Actually giving a promise to pay at a later date only gives them the right to keep calling.  If there is no intention to pay, or the collector or agency is told to stop calling and only contact by mail in the future, they have to oblige by law (otherwise it is harassment.) Simply answer the call and tell them you don't intend to pay...they can threaten all they wish but you must tell them not to contact you by phone again, and to STOP CALLING. While many collectors will try to "work out a payment plan" (if you intend to pay) then ask for a settlement 50% of the debt, and they can take it or leave it.

Credit Card debt is so easy because credit card companies and their banks are more than willing to give you an account even if it stresses your current debt status and financial state.   These companies are motiviated more by profit than service.   This can be seen by all the junk mail from CC Co's trying to get you to switch to their CC.Collection Agencies are just another form of solicitors and ways to make quick and easy money.  They will use whatever means to harass you into paying so they get their commission.

You are so wrong about collectors, we were in the town that got hit with a Tornado and the Tornado took down the hospital and we tried telling them that they said what you want us to do about it.They will not work with you and more than 1/2 the time they never answer the phone when you pick it up.I have no Idea who you are talking to but none that I talk to want to listen, and they never leave a message, nor Identify thereselves. I'm just 1 day late and they call all day long.I agree with the others here. I would say you have to be a collection person and your the one hiding. Wow, what a s****y attitude. Sounds like you've never been behind on bills before. You must be lucky.Guess what honey? S*** happens. You lose jobs. You get sick. You fall behind. It happens. It doesn't mean you're a bad person because something out of your control happens. Don't be such a judgemental a**. They've been calling me and I've informed three different reps what I'll be paying and when they'll get the payment. I was out of a job for almost four months because my company closed down. If it comes down to my mortgage, food and power, GE money is coming in last. It annoys me because I'm doing what I can. If we paid everyone what they wanted we would be broke!  Yes we are bad people.....we worked, bought a house we could afford and made our payments until the powers that be took us down.  Now we are struggling to keep our heads above water while we figure out how to pay higher food and gas prices from the same income we have had for the last four years.  So I agree whole heartily with Lulu, they get to wait and I will aggravate them by not buying into their antics.  :)  I worked as a collector once and I always remembered where I had been at any given time in my life.  Life happens.  So I would ask them to send me $5, $10, $20.....whatever they could afford.  Before they new it  they had paid it all back!!  Everyone was happy and I did not have to make anyone feel like a piece of irresponsible sh** over  money.  My boss loved how his receivables looked and all it took was a little kindness and working together.

Collectors are definitely thick! I realize they have a job to do but the way they are required to do it is ridiculous! I don't hide behind caller ID. I take ALL callers! I politely tell them that Washington isn't the only place where there is a money problem and calling me every 2 days isn't going to change the fact that I still don't have any more money on Wednesday than I had when they called on Monday! One particularly snotty one informed me that the calls would continue until I paid. I got stunned silence when I informed him that I knew exactly how to stop his calls even if I didn't pay him a dime! I told him I knew I could slap a cease & desist letter on him but I enjoy playing with their heads so I happily accept their calls. They inevitably get so frustrated, they hang up, let a few days pass and then try again with a different person. I love it!!!When my situation improves, I’ll be happy to pay the ORIGINAL creditor and if they don’t want it, the collection agency can take a flying leap! Either way, right now, keeping a roof over my family’s heads, food and utilities are my priorities, not multi-billion dollar corporations who ship American jobs to India and the Philippines!

These numbers are from GE Bank.    Many of these started through ridiculous 0% promotions presented by a salesman who did very little to give you all the facts.   For example, they fail to tell you the interest rate is over 29% on the initial balance if it is not paid off in 12 months and that they will always list minimum amounts due on the monthly statements which clearly will not get the amount paid off in 12 months.   They dont tell you this is an opened account, like a credit card, and not a 1 time promotion on your purchase.   Clealry this GE Bank is not doing a valid promotion, is not being completely honest, and is going for those who miss paying off the original amount in 12 months.GE Bank is also connected with Paypal, another difficult organization to deal with when there is a problem.They need to be reported to the authorities for such misleading practices.

Too many collectors don't act within the letter of the law. They will lie, berrate, contact third parties and many other unlawfull practices to collecta perceived debt. They are not TRYING to annoy you into paying but will break the law to get you to pay a perceived debt wheater it is correct or not. Do not speak to them but conduct all of your dealing via correspondance. It is more precise and will prevent emotions from getting in the way of resolution. Bu the way since you pay for phone service you get to determine which call  you will reject or accept and it is not called hiding. Mary your advice is at best simplistic and at worst wrong.

One trick I know these collection agencies play: when you ask for a manager, they connect you with the person sitting at the next desk, NOT a manager. This is one reason notes don't get put in files, and things do not seem to get resolved. The person you spoke with had no authority. When I have an account in collections, I only deal in writing, and only correspond with one individual. Seems much more efficient.

It is a bad policy to give out personal information over the phone especially  name, SS#, address, employment information, etc.Correspond by mail to clear up problems and keep records since businesses like GE Bank as well as others will be very difficult to deal with.  Talking to manager rarely works because they have limited authority, poorly document the conversationm, and you need to start over again with the next manager you talk to - rarely doent this approach get anywhere or resolve any of the problems even when they say the problem is being corrected.   If a collection agency enters the picture deal only by mail.  Spell out the problems, incorrect billing, faulty contract etc. in writing and then ignore them.    They will try to collect (they will try to collect to earn their commissions) by intimidating you.   Don't be intimidated.

Erin, I ran into a problem with this company. They always call when I am at work and can't answer my cell. Thursday July 6 I finally spoke to someone and told them when they can expect payment and for how much. The guy I spoke to said the calls would stop. Monday July 9 they called again but this time from another number. I contacted the BBB and the FTC and filed a complaint. The calls have stopped. I suggest that everyone do the same. If they keep calling after you have spoken to them it is harrassment and not legal.

They continually made mistakes on our account and took a long time to resolve the problem if at all.   We cancelled all of our B of A accounts.    As per other customers, and internet articles they are a very troubled bank.GE Bank is another one, and is far worse.

They are stupid when you've proactively called the cc company 2 weeks to address a late payment before ever receiving a call from the collectors, then when you do begin receiving calls from the collector and actually answer the phone to TELL them you've already spoken to the cc company they still choose to call any and all listed numbers for you multiple times a day without leaving messages! Quite stupid. To make matters worse, even after the late payment has been settled directly with the cc company, the idiotic collectors are still calling you 5 times a day per number!!! C'mon. Seriously??? Communication, people!

Collectors aren't stupid.  They are acting within the letter of the law.  Legally, a collector can leave you 1 (one) message per day.  However they may call as often as they like trying to reach you as long as they only leave one message.  Most collection agencies will quit calling a number that day once they have reached the person who's account they hold.  They are TRYING to annoy you into paying.  Pick up the phone and politely tell them you still don't have money but once you do you will pay them.  Many collectors will try to work out payment arrangements with you if you are polite and speak with them rather than hiding behind caller ID.
