5-5-2015....Also did a call back twice to get the instant message that it belonged to a skype user. First call back the dude was pressing for my name. Provided first name only and asked what the business was. Dude got more agitated and sounded Oriental but possibly Indian in descent. I hung up. Sent a text message back and now got a message 24 hours later calling me a dick-wad and saying something about my dog being in his yard and should he come down to talk to me. It appears by doing a google search for the number that others dating back years have had a similar issue.

Skype What it is the person that is calling you is on a computer through Skype services.Three dollars a month I get unlimited PC to landlines or cell. the reason why you can not call this number back is because the person call you have not pay the extra fee to have people call them back from landlines or cell to PC Skype user. If you can not here the person clears is most likely is their mic is junk.I just got this service today and do not know about the scammers using this service or if this service is a scam. They are a scam!  I just got a phone call on my cell phone from 661-748-0240,  really heavy accent Indian very hard to understand.  He tried to tell me that he was from Microsoft and that I had a virus installed on my computer and it needs to be removed.  He said they sent me an email and I never replied.  I asked him what is the purpose of this phone call?  He said it was just to let me know.  Well I think he just told me that because I wasn't very nice,  I have heard and read about all the scams the Nigerians, Indians out of the country scams that they try and succeed at stealing from innocent people.  I don't have a computer, only at work, and he was trying to give me an ip address.  If i had a computer I wouldn't know if it was my ip address, who memorizes those numbers?  any ways I googled the number after we hung up and sure enough he has taken money from innocent people.  Please don't fall for scammers and never ever give credit card numbers or checking account numbers to anyone on the phone.....

I didn't notice at first until they started to ask me series of questions about what was my name, if I wanted these WINNING tickets, and which they claim that I know them and that I have called them first. All of you who they are telling they are from England, Germany, India or whatever...that is the first indication of a scam. 661 area code is Bakersfield CA. They are using that number as a turn around in order to hide their real number since that is a skype phone number. All of you that are getting scammed might want to try this...Anytime you get a call from any unknown number do not answer. Instead google the number first and if they are legit= IE no reports filed you can always call them back, preferably from a blocked number. Good Luck all.?

The caller's name is Alex Rozera, or rather that is the name that appears on Caller ID when 661-748-0240 is the originating number.  A second number used is 415-800-4496, which is listed to AvTech, a California-based computer support firm that has operated for about five years, according to their web site.  Although Rozera identified himself as a Microsoft Tech Support employee, I confirmed with Microsoft that neither he nor AvTech have any affiliation with Microsoft. It appears that his game is to call to discuss multiple infections and then sell tech support services to remove them.

Either way he was asking her some personal questions that seemed a little off so i told her to hang up again so he asked my sister who i was and why i was telling her to hang up...well when she told him how wierd the call was with a lame prize, thick accent, and tons of bakground noise for being a legit establishment he didnt know what to say besides it sounds like im an angry person. But now that i know it is a scam i probably shouldnt have asked why i sont get a call for some free taxi rides but it was a givaway after he said he was going to try and get ahold of me next... just thought it was a funny story she knew it was a scam though. FYI this is a SKYPE number. It is shared by hundreds if not thousands of Skype callers. Even though Skype is sometimes used by SCAMMERS, such as the cases listed here, it is certainly possible that someone may call you with this number who is TOTALLY LEGIT. So if you have friends or relatives who use Skype, don't be surprised if this phone number shows up in your caller ID.
Report by John Russo Long ago Unknown
That number is used by Skype for telephone calls.  It is not tied to a specific person. When you use Skype to make a call, it grabs one of many numbers they have allocated. There is not a good way to trace who actually called you

From what im reading online and in these forums,so many if us are receiving harassing scam calls from generic untraceable Skype numbers, and Skype customer service is being entirely unhelpful and unwilling to do anything about it. This is beyond poor business practice. It is practically harassment being aided by Skype, and i think we need to send Skype a message about their lack of concern for this. If you are getting calls on a regular basis or at all hours of the day and night from numbers like 661-748-0240  then you know what im talking about. Do not call lists do not work. I suggest either filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and/or discontinuing using Skype and using another similar service. If the BBB receives enough complaints they will take action, and there are many alternative services just like Skype who will take your complaints seriously. On top of all this, Microsoft purchased Skype and has implemented the ability to LISTEN IN ON YOUR SKYPE CALLS. There are several articles on Forbes.com about this. Here is a link to one of them: http://www.forbes.com/sites/ericjackson/2012/ ... my-skype-calls/You can just google microsoft listening in on skype to find msny similar stories. That alone should make you want to change services. Here is one link that gives you seversl alternatives to Skype:http://www.zdnet.com/blog/networking/skype-ju ... p-services/2488Skype should be ashamed, embarassed, and face consequences for their poor handling of this. Sure it may be a small hassle to file a BBB complaint or change services, but not as much of one as receiving constant harrassing scam calls and having your calls snooped on! Dont just lie down and let them get away with this. Let your friends and contacts know as well.

This is not a Skype harassment, it is a regular caller, who able to call bat you can't call back on the same number because the caller have no a phone number. You able to buy with a small fee an account to call from Skype anyone who you like for unlimited. If you invest more, than you able to buy a phone number too from Skype, and use it as a regular phone. Otherwise no one able to return your call. It is so simple. At the beginning I did the same thing, used my Skype to call out, after a year experience I decided it is worth to buy a phone number from Skype.

I received a call from this number on my cell today... no caller ID other than the number.  I don't ever answer a call from a number I don't recognize: 1) all my friends and business clients have my cell number and I meticulously add their names and numbers to the cell database as I receive them so there is no need for me to answer an unknown; 2) if it is a client or someone that really needs to get to me, my voicemail instructs them to leave a phone number and name so I can verify who they are.  In this instance, it was a client of mine with a 'free' 3-month subscription to Skype and he did leave a message so I know where it came from.  My phone now verbally announces "Skype" when the number dials in.  Thanks to other entries on this site, I will also add the other Skype ID's so I know next time.

What do you mean by that?  I have a fixed phone number from skype that I pay for and pay to call landlines and cell phones. You have to have a paid skype account to call landline phones and cell phones. It would not be a random number.  It is only free calling skype to skype and there is no phone number involved there.

This is a Skype number.  Meaning someone is calling your phone from their Skype account, and it the call is routed through this particular number. The number is not owned by any single user but is randomly assigned from a bank of numbers Skype has.  From minute to minute this number might be used by a trusted friend calling you on Skype, or a spammer who is using Skype.  There's no telling.

If you could give me a call back at this number, that would be great. We'll get your 'baby mama drama,' as they're calling it on the street these days, resolved. An India-based company named DNF Global Solutions.Obviously, this is a well-connected establishment who are "harassing" and scamming people. Read my story and I did file a report. I was locked out of my Hotmail account and I was in this continuous loop. I searched the Internet and came across this company who provided tech support for Hotmail. I contacted them and I was told by this “tech” named Nick Nelson that 227 emails were sent from my computer requesting people’s financial data. I entered a contract with them for 3 years that they would provide all of the tech support for my computer. I later found out that companies like DNF Global Solutions are ripping people off. The name of this company is DNF Global Solutions who are located in India. The “tech” installed this Super AntiSpyware virus, which made my computer slower and infected my computer with viruses; my files were being deleted, uploaded and files were hidden. After I did my research, I learned that was a rogue virus to annoy me and to infect my computer, which it did. The scary part is that they were able to unblock my Hotmail account. I changed all of my passwords. While, I was speaking to them, someone gained access to my online banking account. They became the Administrative of the computer and I have not been able to repair it. I was told to call 866-921-5154 for tech support. They were calling me various phone numbers from 661-748-0244, 661-748-0240, 661-748-0242, 661-380-3000, 661-748-0245, but when I called the numbers back, it did not go through. I thought that was odd. After they failed to answer my questions, I decided to terminate the relationship. I spoke to a manager named Sonya who was shooting the “energy” over the phone. There is no DNF Global Solutions with Mike Hughes as the President. 866-921-5154 is the Toll-free number to an all-inclusive exotic vacation; http://allinclusive-adult-vacations.com/desinaion.htm, as well as, to an India phone number. The phone numbers that the “technicians” were calling from apparently were fraudulent because many people were complaining about how they were unethical telemarketers. My computer has not crashed so the forensics can be obtained off it to get their IP Address so that their illegal activities can be stopped.

I just got a call from this guy, and he is a scammer... I met him at a online dating..scammed me for almost $50k I was so dumbed. I realized that it was not real since he gave me a false address for which he claims where he lives. He said he's house was worth millions - when I look it up it was townhouses with average prices. I went to this site ILS.com and you can find all the scammers..and found his number was there. Found all his love letters and poems copied from a book or somewhere. just ignore the call - eventually he will stop. Scammers are very smart and cunning they won't care about anybody as long as you have money. They will say anything that you want to hear.

He also said he is calling from Chicago, but this is a California area code. He has also called me from 661-748-0245, 0240, 0244, 0245, 0242 and 661-380-3000. He tried to speak inappropriately to me and now I don't answer his calls and he doesn't leave messages.  A couple of the numbers are Skype...

No, they were blaming her, see the ._. means they weren't happy. However, it wasn't her fault. The next poster was correct. Once you answer one scam call, your number is resold to other scammers.

If you read the last sentence of what was said "Thanks mom in-law", they weren't BLAMING her, they were THANKING her for the help.
Report by Flying Fox Long ago Unknown
The calls increased because telemarketers sell the phone lists they have to other jerks.Legit businesses will stop calling because of "do-not-call" lists. But scammers don't care anyway. They are doing illegal stuff to begin with. So don't blame mother in law. It wasn't her advice, just the low life scammers who proliferate once a human voice answers a phone, they can sell that number to others of their type of business. They're like roaches, breeding in the dark. And this number did call me too.

I'm getting regular calls from this number, and others. My fiance's mother had me do some thing on my phone to 'stop telemarketers from calling a mobile line.' I'd never had them call before. Now that I've done this, I'm getting calls from strange numbers on a daily basis. Thanks, ma-in-law! -_-

Hi there, just want to add some advice. Please think of your computer from now on as your wallet in your purse which you definitely would not hand to a stranger. I wish there was a way to stop these...one thing I like to do is press and hold the "9" button on my phone because it has the most irritating tone!! That usually gets a quick hang-up...
Report by Computer Professional Long ago Unknown
Anyone who contacts you and asks to remotely access your computer is *always* a scammer -- no exceptions. It wouldn't matter if they sent someone to your door dressed in a police uniform holding a "computer crime division" badge -- it's a scam. No company anywhere (or government agency) has the manpower to do personal, one-on-one contact with infected computer owners. Period.

This is NOT Microsoft. We got the same phone call and same number. We called Microsoft about it, and they assured us it's a scam. We gave them the name and and phone number that he called from. That number was 231-629-4824. This guy also had a heavy Indian accent. We told him to call back in half hour. The lady from Microsoft gave us a direct number where we could reach her at, cause she wanted to know if he called back or not. NO information was given to him whatsoever. NOW, the strange part, as I'm reading all these responses, is he DID call back half hour later, BUT the phone number showed Skype user 661-748-0240. So we called the Microsoft lady back, and she said evidently the 2 are connected together in some way. She thanked me and said they will investigate this. Oh yes, check this one out also: we couldn't hardly understand him cause of his accent, and we wanted his name. So he said each letter one by one like A as in apple. That way. WELL, the name spelled out Andrew Austin. Some Indian name, huh.

Microsoft does NOT cold call people, period. They dont call customers ever unless you call them first and they're calling to follow up. Microsoft will not get notified if your computer has viruses or anything else, if they did they would be getting notices every 10 seconds or so and would be calling people constantly. They dont have the time or man power for that. Nor, frankly, do they really care.

If you let them take control of the laptop watch they are copying every file computer so beware of that, then they had the nerve to ask me for a credit-card to charge 218.00 usd to get rid of all the affective files LOL save yourself some money go to start, then type in run then enter %TEMP% and delete then do a disk clean and your affected file are gone.

Got in to a yelling match, hung up. then they even called me back!!!

"Do you realize that her reversed charges end up costing us money in the aggregate?" is only true if the card companies cannot claw money back from the scammer. Clawback is probable in this case IMO because the scam appears to be ongoing. EVERYTHING the credit card companies and the banks do costs us money in the aggregate. That's how all financial companies handle $fines, $fraud, court $judgements, $whatever -- as a cost of doing business. They simply raise interest rates to raise the $amount needed to cover $fines, $fraud, court $judgements, $whatever.

You're right- we do need to take responsibility for our own idiocy.  That being so, I encourage you, and others who have commented on the stupidity of those who fell for the scams (and are kindly warning others of them), to consider your own shortcomings. It's not smart to fall for the scams, and I have not, but I daresay it's also not terribly smart to take out loans at a rate of about 22% interest on each one.  I've done that and so have you.  Every person in our "smart" population, who uses a credit card, agrees to that less than smart deal- over and over and OVER again . . .  Each and every transaction on your CREDIT card is a LOAN taken at a SUPER EXORBITANT rate. How smart is that??The banks take from us as much as they can, within the confines of existing law.  Given the rates we pay, I think they can be expected to do a bit more for us than distributing our loan dollars and keeping track of what we owe them.

Why should Visa or MasterCard be responsible for the incredible irresponsibility of this "Joni" person?Do you realize that her reversed charges end up costing us money in the aggregate?People need to be responsible for themselves at least a little bit.  Sure, the crooks are the bad guys, but in a case like this, they're really depending on the idiocracy to make their getaway...
Report by Jamie Long ago Unknown
Hi Joni,You can get your money back by reporting this incident as fraud to your credit card company. Your credit card company should be able to reimburse you for the charge, they will then do a fee reversal on the business that charged the credit card. However, it may be difficult if the "business" has closed their account with whatever credit card company you charged the fee on. This usually does not work for debit cards.

First let me tell you that you should NEVER Give ANY Personal information to someone calling you. 99% of the time it is a scam. If they tell you they are from a big company ask for the toll free number so you can be sure it really is the company, if they give you a phone number Search the number on Google or Bing or whatever search engine you use. You will probably find that the number is a scam line (like this Skype number is. Then call the ACTUAL number for the Company and report the number that called you along with the toll free number they provided to you.Now the important part: GETTING YOUR MONEY BACK!!Get the Credit Card you used to pay the $199. Call the Customer Service # on the back. Listen to the Options  the Automated Prompts for something like:  'Report Fraudulent Charges'  'Dispute a Transaction'Or just plain ole' Customer Service. Once you have a person from your Credit Card Company on the phone tell them that you have been the victim of a Scam, explain how the person called you claiming to be an Employee of Microsoft (Don't say McHelp cause that sounds like McDonalds went into the Help Desk Business and not even remotely like a real company) telling you that your computer was being hacked. Give them any information you have on the Fake Company including phone numbers and emails/email addresses, websites. Tell them that they gained access to your computer remotely and may have all of your personal and financial information.I am assuming that you fell for the same scam that the others are describing. They will probably transfer you to the Fraud Department and they should close the current credit card and issue you a new card with a new number since crooks have your Credit Card Number. MAKE SURE that the info gets forwarded to the Fraud Dept even if they don't transfer you to them, and make sure you tell them you want the charges reversed. If you let the scam artists access your computer you should change the passwords to any important accounts, security codes too. If you do online Banking call your Bank and explain everything to them so they can change your account numbers & issue you new Credit/Debit Card(s). Call ALL Other Credit/Debit Cards that you have used on your computer and get new cards issued from them too.***VERY IMPORTANT*** Make Sure when Contacting ALL the Financial Institutions that you knowingly gave your information or have the information stored on your Computer for.....MAKE SURE THAT There are NO Other Unauthorized Charges!!!

How/to whom does a person file a complaint? The same thing happened to me in June 2012 and I paid $199.00 for one years service protection plan. I even was given an account number with McHelp, the name of the company. They called me back yesterday stating I was being hacked again and that it was coming out of China. They were suppose to call me back last night at 7 when I was home and had access to my computer. They did not call. I gave them the lanline phone number. the guy just called be pack on my cell and while I am at work. They are supposedly calling back tonight at 8. He had a very heavy Indian accent and the call was very "echoy" and he spoke rapidly and was rude. I told him he needed to speak slower and clearer and not to be rude to me. I tried calling the number and it is a skype number according to the recording I get. How can I get my money back from June 2012. who can we report this scammer to so it stops and is Microsoft aware of this? I have changed my password on several accounts.

You're an IDIOT!  Why do people like to speak on subjects they know nothing about? Either stupid or lazy I guess. The FTC is not supplying free calling lists to commercial telemarketers. FYI: Companies are required by law to pay a stiff fee in order to access the DNC list, there is no choice in the matter. Additionally the fines are quite stiff for Co's who get caught violating the list either by mistake or intentionally.Of course there are plenty of stealth companies out there that dial away as they wish.

The Do Not Call List has become the problem, not the solution. They make the lists available free of charge to telemarketers so they know who not to call. In fact, the FTC is providing telemarketers a list of good, live telephone numbers that they would otherwise have to pay for.

Thank allah...

Anyone who contacts you and asks to remotely access your computer is *always* a scammer -- no exceptions.

Report by Common Sense Long ago Unknown
Microsoft does NOT cold call people, period. They dont call customers ever unless you call them first and they're calling to follow up. Microsoft will not get notified if your computer has viruses or anything else, if they did they would be getting notices every 10 seconds or so and would be calling people constantly. They dont have the time or man power for that. Nor, frankly, do they really care.
Report by Investigations Long ago Unknown
THIS NUMBER IS UNDER INVESTIGATION!REFERENCE NUMBER #774588This telephone number is a California number so it could be legit. We don't call numbers back, due to legal issues. If anyone finds this to be Microsoft, please reply so the case can be closed.Have a wonderful day,Investigations

Be careful I received the same call from 661-748-0240 say my computer sent them a message, ask questions like what brand of computer Dell, HP, etc and what model type Studio, Mini etc they will start running through a list, meaning there guessing, for the fun of it I had a old lap top I hardly use so I plugged it in OMG all the spyware and trojans that lap top had.

I received a call like this last week. They said my pc was infected and could even tell me the GUID number of it. They wanted me to go to a site and download software to diagnose 'the problem'. I asked for a number to call them back at (always a good defense) and they said they can't accept calls. they finally gave me a number but my caller ID displayed a different #. Got in to a yelling match, hung up. then they even called me back!!!
Report by Dee Long ago Unknown
They r using several #'s & if you gave them permission to get in the computer, that means they have future access. You need to go in & change yoiur settings, or they will infect your computer. My computer guy told me how to change the settings. They donot work for Microsoft either!!

You and the rest of you morons falling for this crap are the reason we still have to deal with these types of calls. If you people weren't SO STUPID these scams would not work and they would not waste the time. ANY company or entity that calls for any reason should be treated as a scammer. Unless you already have a business relationship and using MS software doesn;t count cause microsoft could not care less if you get your pc infected with a virus that is your problem and they would never call. Dumb a***s!

My bank helped because they are tired of consumer fraud and the millions it cost daily.

Report by ed Long ago Unknown
We had that happened a few times. The first time we believed them and spent $199. When we found that they were not connected to Microsoft we filed a complaint with them and they refunded the charge.I changed a number of passwords etc., after that. Calls after that were ignored.

Report by NoMan Long ago Unknown
The Do Not Call List has become the problem, not the solution. They make the lists available free of charge to telemarketers so they know who not to call. In fact, the FTC is providing telemarketers a list of good, live telephone numbers that they would otherwise have to pay for.

The number is (allegedly) a Montana number.  Probably from a phoney company selling weight-loss plans (or so they say).  In reality they are a group of Montana mad hatters or maniacs trying to scam innocent people's money or ID information.  I prefer the description of maniacs because they are too stupid to be morons and too cowardly to be maniacs.

The recorded message says they are Air Duct Services located in Miles City, Montana. Report this to the Do Not Call Registry. At least with a company name, location and phone number, DNC might have a chance at finding and fining them.  EVERYONE who gets a call needs to notify DNC. The more complaints they receive about them the better.

If you reply to unsubscribe, they know they have a working fax number and sell it.  I suggest calling the number to unsubscribe and instead of entering your fax number, enter their number!  They will sell it to other companies and then their fax paper and ink use will go up and their sales will go down.  And they will know exactly how it feels!  ; )

I received a FAX from an unknown number, giving this as the unsubscribe number.Searching google for the npa-nxx (206-377) indicates businesses in Lakeland, Florida, not in Washington State, where 206 is located. This smells of scam, and they businesses are all payday loans and get-rich-quick schemes. There really needs to be something done about this. I did NOT unsubscribe because I felt it would be validating my FAX number to the scammers!I note further that it makes mention of a number in area 708, which I think is Illinois, the natural home of my toll-free number. It says to contact a number in area 201, which is in New Jersey. H'm, Florida, Washington, Illinois, New Jersey - do these people have an identity crisis!?

We received the same fax. I am so sick of these junk faxes. Not only do they waste toner and paper, they cause our fax machine - which is also a copier and printer - to jam. That was a big problem with our previous fax/copier/printer, which I believe led to the machine's demise. Our company's work backed up while we waited for the repairman to come in, and eventually had to buy a new machine. The repairman explained that the large lettering and bold print on the junk faxes cause toner to be poured onto the paper and then it gets into the machine. We no longer use AT&T for our fax line. The senior accountant got fed up with them.

This scam has filled my fax machine with worthless paper.  The FCC and Congress should allow us to backcharge AT&T for the costly waste of paper, toner, and time.  With this new congress, maybe they will split AT&T up again.AT&T sucks!

This is an "unsubscribe" to your fax number from a scam company fishing for credit card and bank account numbers. It is an anonymous company with no name or physical address. To get quick approval [to be scammed], the fax recipient is instructed to fax 516-213-3447. Thank you AT&T for selling my fax number and sending me this junk! Can I deduct the paper and toner costs from my next phone bill?

This is a Telemarketer.  from EDUCATION NETWORK or some variation of this name, about continuing Education.   I have been getting calls non-stop from this company.  This company is either hacking into JOB/CAREER Web Sites or the web site is selling your info as LEADS to this company, after requesting your info to not be used for solicitations and that I explicitely indicated I wanted no info on continuing my education.  They use many numbers.  All of the numbers calling me so far from this company are cell phones.  Cannot call the #'s back.  I have reported one of the phone#'s already to the FTC.  Most of these callers are Arrogant and Argumentative.  I have told them to PUT ME ON YOUR DO NOT CALL LIST, and then was told by one of them, "But, I Believe You Are Interested", and then still would not listen to me.  Would not give me the chance to speak to a supervisor.  Well, all I can say is that it is illegal for them to be calling me, I did not give them my info and I am on the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY.  If I can't find a job, maybe I can start making money off of these people calling me constantly!!!  LOL

Call backs to this number get a voice mail saying "United Health Care." My wife left a message a few days ago asking the company to stop the calls and remove our number as we are on the federal Do Not Call list. The calls keep coming each day.
