This number just called and i had a bad connection so i hung up. I called the number back from a masked landline and got an recorded messge saying thanks for calling WN positions, and proceeded to state something about job opportunities and some survey and i had indicated i wanted to get job info, none of which i did. This is a work cell phone they called which i never have received telemarketer calls until recently. The only thing i did recently wes, get this, put my number proactively on the do not call list. Either the list is compromised, donotcall.gov is not really the official site, or something is intercepting traffic and my number never made the list. I did not enter my number in the supposed don't call me again system. To me that just confirms they have a fish on the line, ya know...Read more at http://www.callercenter.com/704-489-3340.html#7OiaXAPegcTmB3rf.99

I got an unwanted call this morning on my business cell phone. The person identified himself however he talked too fast for me to catch his name. He did say he was what I thought was the WN or WIN company and he was following up on a survey I had recently taken and he could help me with a job or employment or something like that. I advised him I did not take a survey and he took off on his sells pitch. I advised him I did not want to hang up on him but I did not take a survey and he immediately hung up on me.

Yes, I'm getting these calls too.  And why I get them is unbelievable.  My phone number was originally held by someone else.  He had a timeshare and they are calling him.  (I don't have one.)  His number was reassigned to me EIGHT AND A HALF years ago!  They just keep buying old timeshare databases and calling.  This is about the fifth company that's called me even though I've never had a timeshare.  How low can they go?

Get a call from this number every now and then. They are looking to buy my timeshare. They are not very professional, so if I actually did want to sell my timeshare it would never be with them. The bigger question is how they got my info? Steve Kwidkowski just called me, saying that the firm (Sage) has assumed a debt from Pinnacle Bank which, in turn, has taken over the credit card from Chase Bank.  "They have come to me with the instruction to engage legal counsel on their behalf, early next week," which means he is not a lawyer, but rather someone paid by an attorney to call me, do some leg work, and get back to them.  "They are poised to pursue a civil remedy...."  My only thought is, "OK, get in line.""There is no indication in my (sic) client's transcripts that they have ever offered a settlement..." so they'll reduce the debt by one third.  The sic applies because Pinnacle Bank is not his client, the attorneys representing Pinnacle Bank are. Here are my thoughts.  This account has been dead for more than 3 years.  We have not filed for bankruptcy because, frankly, we need money to file when our problem is that there is no money.  We know an excellent, and very helpful Adjunct Professor at two very good law schools in the area who specializes in bankruptcy.  He wonders if our best solution might be to wait things out because the statute of limitations is approaching, or past, to file a civil claim.  (See LAMET's comment, above,)  Our only vulnerability appears to be claims that have already been filed against us, and a judgement was rendered.  There is no statute of limitations issue if the party initiates the lawsuit within the time defined by the statute.  Such cases can go on forever, and the claim by the debtor is valid, so long as the case is initiated before the statute of limitations kicks in.  The caveats are that small claims in my state get wiped after seven years because, by statute, District Court civil cases are purged after seven years, but Circuit Court cases last forever.  I have to give the guy some credit.  He is a smooth talker.  Maybe a radio personality, or a guy who does radio commercials.  He can ready copy well.  But if Sage Capital thinks they are getting one penny from me, think again.  You can't get blood from a turnip.

Sage collecting for Advanta. Don't believe anything they say. Cardworks is servicing the former Advanta portfolio, which last I checked was in the hands of Deutsche Bank trust (or trusts) which financed advanta's portfolio in the first place (in other words, in the BK the assets simply went to the idiot they were pledged to, who was at least smart enough to make sure they were securitized in said idiot's favor). Cardworks rotates the debt out to Phillips & Cohen, Sage (and perhaps still Sentry) for collections calls. A tiny, tiny fraction of debtors may get sued ... these would be folks who have few if any other debt and who are foolishly obvious about their financial recovery in one way or another.

They have called me twice now. Sent me a bill. What I saw was I owed the original creditor 9 g they are charging me 16 g. They also went under the name of MRS & Associates. Reported to NJ BBB then filed a report with the ftc/gov. They cannot charge you additional interest which is what they did. They have threatened to sue me not once but twice now. Blocked there number so they call from another one. Had one screaming me me tell me what a low life piece of crap I was for not paying her. Been out of work for over two years. Went back to school to learn a trade. In the process of doing just that. They want to know what I live on, told them financial aide. They told me to give them that money. I told them if I did that I would not have a roof over my head. They then said, well live outside just pay us. I gave them my attorney's phone number they refused to take it. First one must have the money to do a bk, of which I do not have. They have even left a message on my answering machine saying they were going to sue me. What I do not understand, is I sent a cease and desist letter to the original creditor; isn't that illegal to call when there is a letter on file? According to the ftc and the bbb they said they cannot charge all this interest and they are doing just that. All I know is, I report and complain.

I experienced a person with the last name of Bagell calling my cell phone from the 866-757-7243 ext. 503 today and he left a detailed explanation that Mr. or Mrs. ****** or whomever is listening to this message, needs to make sure that they gets this information becuase a liability claim close to (specific amount) is about to be processed against them and I [Bagell] thought they should know about it. They need to return my call at 866-757-7243 ext. 503. (1) the debt he is reffering to is a business debt from a business that is no longer in business.(2) I explained this to the original debtors (Advanta) and have even tried to make payemnt arrangements with them, the first creditors they turned it over to and they were not happy with the amount I was able to pay every month. I have a family to feed and a roof (not fancy roof either) to keep over their heads. Although my husband works, he doesn't make enough to support us. I offered up 25% of my monthly bring home pay (about $150.00) a month and was laughed at. I can only give what I can. I understand the debt is mine to pay back. Hindsight is always 20/20 and as time progresses, and income increases, I will revisit the debt and pay it back. (3) The debt was obtained for business purposes and although I am the guarantor on the debt, I don't believe they can process a liability claim on both me and my husband...can they?

Well I never answer my phone from a collection agency or a number nor recognized by the phone. This dude says he is from Sage recovery, regarding Advanta Bank, wishing to talk to me about my default line of credit. Steming from the above number and this one (866) 757-7243....What I do from this point on is to log the number on the cell contact list and label it collection agency...This way if it rings again, you can see where the call is coming from and decide then to answer it or simply put iit in your mail box voice.....On another note, you can place the number on a "No Call List" this way when the call does go through then they (Collection Companies) may have violated a federal law that prohibits them from doing just that.Although I am not an attorney,I can say that consumers have many options that collection agencys do not wish you to know about,so they may continue to harrass until you have had enough,or leave it in the hands of an agency that will consolidate the debt as a whole..You can then make monthly installments. till the debt is paid......Some of these recovery people have a job to do,like all of us,but then....Some are bottom feeders that have no class, and are beyond rude...You don't have to deal with this...You have options.....Michael

Robert Cohen called me on 5/15 at 11:01 am stating he is calling on behalf of Advanta Bank. He said he is going to have his council in my state file an involuntary bankruptcy proceeding in the US Bankruptcy court against my entity (which is no longer active). He wants me to address this matter and told me to call him at: 866-757-7243 ext. 508. He called frim 856-773-4724.Advanta Bank increased my rate to 36% for no reason and without ever informing me in writing 2 years ago. When I asked them why I was transferred to their "law" department. Then their so called lawyer actually yelled at me at the top of his lungs when I asked him why they raised my % and never informed me of this. When he was through with his temper tantrum he hung up on me. This happened numerous times. I also wrote them a letter and never received a response.Advanta Bank are scam artists and need to be stopped.

Lamet, A lot of that stuff is out the window because Advanta was a business lender and therefore not subject to the FDCPA. There is only one tiny sliver of case law (Moore v. Principal) that applies the FDCPA to business debt, and it's roundly criticized and not followed.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, enforces the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), which prohibits debt collectors from using abusive, unfair, or deceptive practices to collect from you.Under the FDCPA, a debt collector is someone who regularly collects debts owed to others. This includes collection agencies, lawyers who collect debts on a regular basis, and companies that buy delinquent debts and then try to collect them. Here are some questions and answers about your rights under the Act.What types of debts are covered? The Act covers personal, family, and household debts, including money you owe on a personal credit card account, an auto loan, a medical bill, and your mortgage. The FDCPA doesn’t cover debts you incurred to run a business. Can a debt collector contact me any time or any place? No. A debt collector may not contact you at inconvenient times or places, such as before 8 in the morning or after 9 at night, unless you agree to it. And collectors may not contact you at work if they’re told (orally or in writing) that you’re not allowed to get calls there. How can I stop a debt collector from contacting me?If a collector contacts you about a debt, you may want to talk to them at least once to see if you can resolve the matter – even if you don’t think you owe the debt, can’t repay it immediately, or think that the collector is contacting you by mistake. If you decide after contacting the debt collector that you don’t want the collector to contact you again, tell the collector – in writing – to stop contacting you. Here’s how to do that:Make a copy of your letter. Send the original by certified mail, and pay for a “return receipt” so you’ll be able to document what the collector received. Once the collector receives your letter, they may not contact you again, with two exceptions: a collector can contact you to tell you there will be no further contact or to let you know that they or the creditor intend to take a specific action, like filing a lawsuit. Sending such a letter to a debt collector you owe money to does not get rid of the debt, but it should stop the contact. The creditor or the debt collector still can sue you to collect the debt. Can a debt collector contact anyone else about my debt?If an attorney is representing you about the debt, the debt collector must contact the attorney, rather than you. If you don’t have an attorney, a collector may contact other people – but only to find out your address, your home phone number, and where you work. Collectors usually are prohibited from contacting third parties more than once. Other than to obtain this location information about you, a debt collector generally is not permitted to discuss your debt with anyone other than you, your spouse, or your attorney. What does the debt collector have to tell me about the debt? Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money. Can a debt collector keep contacting me if I don’t think I owe any money? If you send the debt collector a letter stating that you don’t owe any or all of the money, or asking for verification of the debt, that collector must stop contacting you. You have to send that letter within 30 days after you receive the validation notice. But a collector can begin contacting you again if it sends you written verification of the debt, like a copy of a bill for the amount you owe. What practices are off limits for debt collectors?Harassment. Debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse you or any third parties they contact. For example, they may not:     use threats of violence or harm;     publish a list of names of people who refuse to pay their debts (but they can give this information to the credit reporting companies);     use obscene or profane language; or     repeatedly use the phone to annoy someone. False statements. Debt collectors may not lie when they are trying to collect a debt. For example, they may not:     falsely claim that they are attorneys or government representatives;     falsely claim that you have committed a crime;     falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit reporting company;     misrepresent the amount you owe;     indicate that papers they send you are legal forms if they aren’t; or     indicate that papers they send to you aren’t legal forms if they are. Debt collectors also are prohibited from saying that:     you will be arrested if you don’t pay your debt;     they’ll seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages unless they are permitted by law to take the action and intend to do so; or     legal action will be taken against you, if doing so would be illegal or if they don’t intend to take the action. Debt collectors may not:     give false credit information about you to anyone, including a credit reporting company;     send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency if it isn’t; or     use a false company name. Unfair practices. Debt collectors may not engage in unfair practices when they try to collect a debt. For example, they may not:     try to collect any interest, fee, or other charge on top of the amount you owe unless the contract that created your debt – or your state law – allows the charge;     deposit a post-dated check early;     take or threaten to take your property unless it can be done legally; or     contact you by postcard. Can I control which debts my payments apply to? Yes. If a debt collector is trying to collect more than one debt from you, the collector must apply any payment you make to the debt you select. Equally important, a debt collector may not apply a payment to a debt you don’t think you owe.Can a debt collector garnish my bank account or my wages? If you don’t pay a debt, a creditor or its debt collector generally can sue you to collect. If they win, the court will enter a judgment against you. The judgment states the amount of money you owe, and allows the creditor or collector to get a garnishment order against you, directing a third party, like your bank, to turn over funds from your account to pay the debt. Wage garnishment happens when your employer withholds part of your compensation to pay your debts. Your wages usually can be garnished only as the result of a court order. Don’t ignore a lawsuit summons. If you do, you lose the opportunity to fight a wage garnishment. Can federal benefits be garnished? Many federal benefits are exempt from garnishment, including:     Social Security Benefits     Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Benefits     Veterans’ Benefits     Civil Service and Federal Retirement and Disability Benefits     Service Members’ Pay     Military Annuities and Survivors’ Benefits     Student Assistance     Railroad Retirement Benefits     Merchant Seamen Wages     Longshoremen’s and Harbor Workers’ Death and Disability Benefits     Foreign Service Retirement and Disability Benefits     Compensation for Injury, Death, or Detention of Employees of U.S. Contractors Outside the U.S.     Federal Emergency Management Agency Federal Disaster Assistance But federal benefits may be garnished under certain circumstances, including to pay delinquent taxes, alimony, child support, or student loans. Do I have any recourse if I think a debt collector has violated the law? You have the right to sue a collector in a state or federal court within one year from the date the law was violated. If you win, the judge can require the collector to pay you for any damages you can prove you suffered because of the illegal collection practices, like lost wages and medical bills. The judge can require the debt collector to pay you up to $1,000, even if you can’t prove that you suffered actual damages. You also can be reimbursed for your attorney’s fees and court costs. A group of people also may sue a debt collector as part of a class action lawsuit and recover money for damages up to $500,000, or one percent of the collector’s net worth, whichever amount is lower. Even if a debt collector violates the FDCPA in trying to collect a debt, the debt does not go away if you owe it.What should I do if a debt collector sues me?If a debt collector files a lawsuit against you to collect a debt, respond to the lawsuit, either personally or through your lawyer, by the date specified in the court papers to preserve your rights. Where do I report a debt collector for an alleged violation?Report any problems you have with a debt collector to your state Attorney General’s office (www.naag.org) and the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov). Many states have their own debt collection laws that are different from the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Your Attorney General’s office can help you determine your rights under your state’s law.For More InformationTo learn more about debt collection and other credit-related issues, visit www.ftc.gov/credit and MyMoney.gov, the U.S. government’s portal to financial education. The FTC works for the consumer to prevent fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair business practices in the marketplace and to provide information to help consumers spot, stop, and avoid them. I had a voicemail message from "DEA agent John Riley" 309-200-1838. When I returned the call it was the  same story. Accusations of illegal overseas purchases and threats of arrest. When he stated all charges could be eliminated for a fee I realized it was a scam. Reported name & number to DEA anti-scam number 877-792-2873.

It happened to me this morning.  Listened to a message from SAC John Riley to call him back at 309-200-1838 ext 1525.  Man with an accent.  Came to work, called and received threats of a criminal prosecution unless I decided within the next 30 minutes to pay.  He knew my name, phone number and address.  I had supposedly been smuggling illegal drugs to this country since 2007.  I informed him that I hadn't, he said if I didn't agree to the payment I'd better get an attorney.  He gave me a website to look up a John Riley DEA and there's a picture of SAC John Riley.  Told me to look under drug info and look at the penaly I could get if I continued with an attorney.  At this point I told him I was in charge of the enforcement branch of my company and got my attorney on the line.  Guess what, he hung up.

This number called my old employer and said I needed to call him back. He stated he was a DEA agent from Chicago and is calling about an ongoing investigation.  Told me I had ordered online prescription and I was going to jail unless I wanted to make a deal with the DA. I was told if I sent $1500 thru western union to a third world country the charges would be dropped. I refused to pay and he told me he'd see me in court.  THIS IS A SCAM!! Don't give them any info or money.

I received a call from a man who identified himself as John Riley with DEA Chicago. He told me I was under investigation for 3 charges of illgeal online purchase of controlled substance... The person even knew my home address.  He demanded that I obtain an attorney as he had a warrant for my arrest and was taking me to court. Then, he abruptly hung up on me. I called the number back. He has a voice mail set up where he identifies himself as John Riley, DEA agent for Chicago. I immediately contacted the DEA office in Chicago. They verified that this is scam. In fact, the DEA in Chicago has an area code of 312, not 309. If you receive this phone call, be sure to report it to the Extortion Hotline @ 1-877-792-2873 . You can also contact DEA in Chicago at 312-353-7875.

Got a call last night.  Very loud voice.  It only differed from the normal drug salesmen who will just not stop calling, because it was a little more understandable, but still not quite right.  A***ole claimed to be from DEA.  A***ole left message on voice mail.  Why would DEA leave a voice mail to call back?  To give you time to get rid of evidence? The really weird thing is that my phone shows no call from anyone, the voice mail just appeared without any notice from my phone.Maybe I better give them a call?  Maybe they can blow me over the phone?

ALERT - EXTORTION SCAM - ALERTDEA Warns Public of Extortion Scam by DEA Special Agent ImpersonatorsThe Drug Enforcement Administration is warning the public about criminals posing as DEA special agents or other law enforcement personnel as part of an international extortion scheme. The criminals call the victims (who in most cases previously purchased drugs over the lnternet or by telephone) and identify themselves as DEA agents or law enforcement officials from other agencies.  The impersonators inform their victims that purchasing drugs over the lnternet or by telephone is illegal, and that enforcement action will be taken against them unless they pay a fine.  In most cases, the impersonators instruct their victims to pay the "fine" via wire transfer to a designated location, usually overseas.  If victims refuse to send money, the impersonators often threaten to arrest them or search their property.  Some victims who purchased their drugs using a credit card also reported fraudulent use of their credit cards.Impersonating a federal agent is a violation of federal law.  The public should be aware that no DEA agent will ever contact members of the public by telephone to demand money or any other form of payment. The DEA reminds the public to use caution when purchasing controlled substance pharmaceuticals by telephone or through the Internet.  It is illegal to purchase controlled substance pharmaceuticals online or by telephone unless very stringent requirements are met.  And, all pharmacies that dispense controlled substance pharmaceuticals by means of the lnternet must be registered with DEA.  By ordering any pharmaceutical medications online or by telephone from unknown entities, members of the public risk receiving unsafe, counterfeit, and/or ineffective drugs from criminals who operate outside the law.  In addition, personal and financial information could be compromised.Anyone receiving a telephone call from a person purporting to be a DEA special agent or other law enforcement official seeking money should refuse the demand and report the threat.Report Extortion Scam: 1-877-792-2873 http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/pubs/pressreleases/extortion_scam.htm

Yeah, these bozos just call and never leave a message. I answered once, and I even called them back because the 866 area code is also used in public government numbers, again no one answers. The borderline homeless population must have to do about a couple of million speed dials per day in order to get paid. It is sad that these jobs are one of the few growth industries in our current economic depression. I also started to receive these calls when I had signed up with Comcast. So right off I know it's not legit so I will sometimes push the 1 to "speak with a live agent"just to mess with their head or try my latest character voice.
