I have comcast for my home phone service.  I can log on to my account and change my preferances under the call screening. I can block up to 12 numbers and this number is one of them.  Once I block them they will hear that this subscriber is not accepting calls at this time.  On my cell phone I use Sprint, and when I log on to my account, I can block up to 99 numbers for calls and texts.  If you are tired of getting these calls and your efforts to take your name off the do not call lists fail, just block their number and your phone does not ring anymore.  Try it.

Some of the posts here are totally accurate - this number "Publisher Interests Communication" called me three times tonight and just hung up.   I dialed *69 to find out who was calling and hanging up.   Yes, I left a message with my number to be taken off their list - but even that seems suspect.  If all their service does is call and hang up, what's the point...
Report by Rich in VA Near DC Long ago Unknown
Yes, it is annoying.   They've called EVERY DAY for the past 9 days and left messages, with only their number on the tape, so I left a return message for them to take us off their $#%^&%#$ list.   LIt's a supposed charity -- a for profit firm which "retains" anywhere from 25-50% of what they collect.   Let's hope it works and the annoying messages stop.
Report by zinner Long ago Unknown
Caller ID says Pub Interest Co. and they have been calling every day for two weeks.  We dont answer the house phone. We only have it for a Tivo but I do look up these harrasing idiots and turn them in to 'donotcall.gov'. Just did it! The calls always seem to stop after I do that!
Report by thomas Long ago Unknown
doing this results in even MORE calls.  They are scam artists anyway.

Do you work for these scammers?  The link you provide requires you to provide information that is not relevant, such as your e-mail address.  Why would you need an e-mail address to stop "fund raising" phone calls.  This is just another way to get your personal info.

Its long been a bit of etiquette on the Internet that typing in all caps gives the appearance of being a screaming clown - very rude or ignorant.  Just a tip, turn your 'all caps' off and type like everyone else does.  You aren't a telegram.

THIS IS A GREAT IDEA!  I PLAN TO REPORT THEM EVERYTIME I GET A CALL TOO ... MAYBE THESE REPORTS WILL STOP HARRASEMENT!  PRETTY BAD WHEN THEY CONTINUE CALLING ALL HOURS ON SUNDAY .... GUESS THEY NEVER QUIT ... THANKS FOR INFO!
Report by Lucy Long ago Unknown
You can fill out the form with inaccurate/fake info with the exception of the number you want removed.  That way, you won't get paper mail, email, etc. and you've entered your number to be removed.  I put myself as Iamnot Booboothefoo of 123 Sesame Street, Donotcallsville, PA.  You get the picture.  But I've been calling to request removal, and that seems to be linked to some sort of "keep calling" request line.
Report by clementsll Long ago Unknown
I don't recommend filling out their form to be taken off their list, unless you want to give them all your personal information. Legitimate "do-not-call" lists require ONLY the number you want removed, not all your personal information. On the other hand, if you want to be placed on MORE lists....

Hey I got that call too...they said they were from Kansas City Public Television and wanted me to make a donation of $100.00 to them. I don't believe them but offered them $50 and said mail it in the mail. They also wanted my credit card number, type, and more. They also said they were down 194,000.00 in money; I don't believe them.

When I called back the number, the recording identified that it's calling on behalf on one of my favorite charities.  Have you donated in the past and left your number as a contact number?  As previous posters mentioned, you can call back the number and ask them to remove your number from their list.

I agree with Monk!  Some suspicious here ... they call, call, call, even after several times me supposedly removing my number from their files processed following their directions.  I still get regular harrasement calls all hours from that number.  I have tried blocking it to no avail.  There is a lot of unethical things these days so NEVER give info to anyone over phone or internet ... stealing idenity and account numbers comes easy for these scoundrels!  With the economy .... everyone is soliciting business, attorney, real estate, loans, etc.  and most only deal face to face ... not on phone or internet!  Also never donate unless you know the organization and that you know where the money is really going!  By the way ... anyone have luck stopping these stinky calls???
Report by Thomas Long ago Unknown
So how is it that charities report that they receive only 20% of the contributions?  I would never never never ever give money to a telephone solicitation that comes from a 3rd party - you have NO WAY to find out whether it is legit or not. 95% of the calls are these low feeding fund raising companies.  Once I find out which charity they are supposedly trying to raise money for I send a letter to the charity to complain about repeated annoying calls and also stop contributing to that charity. Even if a charity calls me directly, I would never give out information; I tell them if they want me to contribute, send paper mail. And the fundraising companies call at al hours of the day and night, which is extremely annoying and if you dare to complain they will tell you tough luck. And why do the charities continue to use robo caller machines, which if you are stupid enough to answer, gives silence and no human ever comes on the line?  I thought they had been outlawed.Fortunately I have caller ID, so when I recognize these creeps I simply answer the phone and hang up immediately to stop the ringing."professional fundraisers" are about as trustworthy as used car salesmen. Never ever give them money.
Report by Biz Doc Long ago Unknown
I consult for non-profits and I can tell you that unsolicited telephone calls are the brute force unsophisticated method of fundraising these days.  Also, AS LONG AS the charity insists on the right to solicit independently, direct donations are NOT subject to "ROI fees."  Most of them do that now.So give directly to the charity of your choice, folks.  If the fundraising telemarketers fail in their mission they'll stop using these antiquated methods of calling unsolicited.  Of course, that will probably never happen because there are too many folks who will accept the intrusion and freely hand over funds to a stranger calling them on the phone... ;(
Report by professional fundraiser Long ago Unknown
I work for a different fundraising company, and I can tell you that standard practice in the fundraising business is to take a payment upfront, and guarantee a specific return on investment. Fundraising companies never take a "cut" of your donation, if you write a check you make it out to the charity, or if your card is charged it's charged by the charity, and then they do whatever they want with it, which includes spending money on fundraising, all charities spend money on fundraising, weather they do it themselves or hire others to do it for them, and the percentage that they spend on fundraising or development, as it is sometimes called is a matter of public record.  If you send the charity a check directly, without going through a 3rd party fundraising company, the exact same percentage of that donation will go to paying the fundraisers as if you had.  The people calling you are going to get paid the same regardless of if you answer or if you give them money or not. For example, a charity will have a contract with us for 500,000, we sign up 2000 people to give 20 dollars per month, after a year, the original investment is recouped and the average time that people continue to give is 6 years, meaning that the charity makes a 500% return on investment.  Some companies, like ours, will also guarantee a minimum contribution, so if someone drops off before the year it takes to pay for the fundrasing, we will make up the difference, which is why we always strive to sign up only people who are committed and really care about the cause, and not use tactics to force or guilt people to sign up, only to cancel a month later.  These companies are for profit, yes... but charities choose to hire them for a reason, and you should not feel uncomfortable giving through them.
Report by Mike Long ago Unknown
I second your motion. The calls are legally fine, but the professional calling company takes a cut of your donation, frequently a very large cut. Give directly to the charities of your choice.
Report by Ferd Long ago Unknown
I wouldn't give a dime to commercial fundraisers.  Check with the Attorney General's office in your state and get the list of what percentage of the money actually makes it to the charity.  I alway give directly to charities of my choice and NEVER give anything to telephone solicitors.  Don't encourage them.  It's telephonic SPAM!
Report by Doc Long ago Unknown
It is a legitimate business that grew out of Common Cause in the 80's. I worked there, at P.I.C., from '88 until '92. While you may find some of their tactics objectionable, there is nothing illegal or "scammy" about them."Real charities" have been hiring outside, professional fund raising help since the 1960's. I've worked for so many of them I can't list all of their names here. This is a legit fund raising outfit. Calm down, have a drink of whatever turns your crank and take a couple of deep breaths.

Chris, With all due charity, if you read a newspaper or listen to the news for a while you will hear stories of bad people who cheat nieve people out of their money with stories under circumstances like these. A word to the wise is sufficient, others who can't learn by mistakes or others will suffer the same fate.
Report by Molly Long ago Unknown
When you call, the only option you have is to give them your phone number (supposedly to remove your phone number from their list).  If this company works with charities, why don't they have a different message?  They always hang up when I answer.  If they provide a service, why don't they do anything but ask for your phone number?
Report by Dee Long ago Unknown
legitimate non profit charities do not call 3 -4 times per day and when you ask them to stop calling they refuse. Now they just call and when I answer they hang up on me. Nice! So I think Monk is not being paranoid at all. Their behavior is to the point of harrassment.
Report by paul Long ago Unknown
Why do they hang up when you answer? They probably hang up after you pick up because the system used is a predictive dialing system.  Basically it calls three phone numbers for each telemarketer and sometimes if all 3 pick up, it will hang up on one or two of the people, it's what you call "dropped calls".
Report by Usqueba Long ago Unknown
if they get lists from charities, where do the *charities* get the list? I'm not on any list.
Report by Mike Long ago Unknown
That IS a cold call. Having a list does not change that--unless it specifically a list of people who have expressed interest (then it is a warm call). These lists are usually purchased lists of people they think are likely candidates to say yes, but if the call is the first contact with the person, it is a cold call.
Report by Bill Long ago Unknown
That's actually the definition of cold calling.

You can't bother to answer a phone with no one on the other end....but you're all gung ho to file a lawsuit...ok....These people suck either way but really you'd rather collect evidence, contact a lawyer, go to meetings, go to court or arbitration and pay out of your own pocket instead of answering a phone with no one there? Crazy concept - get caller id first!

The "do not call" list is to prevent telemarketing calls. Calls to solicit donations to charities, lobbies, and political groups are not covered. Ask to be removed from their list. I know it's really hard for most people to understand, but if someone is doing something you don't like the first step to solving the problem is to ask them politely to stop. Litigation should always be the very last resort.

The caller ID includes the name PUBLIC INTEREST CO. They just phoned me and asked for a monthly contribution for Defenders of Wildlife and asked for a credit card number.  I asked if there was a way to contribute online and they said they didn't know—I wouldn't give them a credit card number. They're supposed to send out a form, etc., which I will pitch, as I signed up online at the legitimate website for a monthly contribution. I don't know who they think would be crazy enough to give them a cc number, cold calling over the phone.

Third call from these idiots.  They are soliciting funds for oil and gas ventures, but when I do a reverse lookup on the phone number, it comes up as "All About Windows", a legitimate company in Woodland Hills, CA.  FIrst...  if you have to disguise your phone number, this is NOT a place to invest money with.  Two... if you DO want oil and gas deals, there are good ones out there that do not need to have telemarketers find innocent money victims.  Three.... never invest your money with someone who calls out of the blue on the telephone.  This kind of a***ipe gives legitimate oil and gas ventures a bad name!

Same thing here. Got a call from this number a few minutes ago, and they hung up when the machine picked up. Googled the number because I didn't recognize it. Read the post here saying it was Portfolio, and googled them. If it is indeed Portfolio, it seems they have a habit of calling from multiple phone numbers trying to collect on old debts that either can't be verified, or have gone way past the statute of limitations and aren't legally pursuable any more. Jerks. Any company on the up-and-up wouldn't hide behind twenty or thirty different phone numbers. (Google them, they have an obscene list of numbers they hide behind). Yeah. Like I'm going to give any money to shady people like THAT. They're wasting their time calling me, no way am I dealing with them.

whats funny is a lot of times the debt collectors buy a bundle of debt, say $10 million dollars worth or debt for say $.10 on the dollar, so they only pay $1million for it.  Then they send everyone 40% settlement letter offers saying that if you owed $1,000, now you only owe $400, but they only paid $100 to purchase the 10 year old debt, so they figure if a percentage pays it then they make money. . . worked in collections for 8 years! this is definately how it is done!  I have a bellsouth bill fro 1998 that I still get 50% settlement letters on.  That debt has been resold so many times, and I have never talked to one single person. . no need, they cant collect it. too old

Robo message -- pressed one  -- waited a long time before female voice "Andraya" came on the line yabbering about some senior citizen alarm.  Spent several minutes asking her if she was my daughter and that I was trying to call my daughter.  Tried to give her the impression that I have Alzheimers with the hope that she would remove my telephone number from her machine as a waste of time. She seemed to have less brains than my dog.  Finally hung up on her.

Definitely a SCAM on elders! First clue: the caller id did not show company name. It displayed "V81320140104408." It was a "robo-computer-caller." I pressed 1 to speak with a person. I asked how they got my number as I'm on the federal DoNotCall.gov list. She gave me lame excuses for how they got my number. I requested to be removed from the call list. IF they call again, I will tell them I will sue! FYI: Supposedly, they are Senior Medical Benefits. As far as I can tell they do not have a business nor any type of professional license with Washington State Dept of Licensing nor Dept. of Revenue. BIG CLUE THAT THEY ARE A SCAM! SHAME ON THEM FOR SCAMMING ELDERS!

I just got a call from that number also. It's not the first time.  No one is there and there is no message.  I called it back and there is a recording telling you that no one is available.I'm guessing that the number may be trying to send spam text messages, but it doesn't work when calling a land line (which is what the call came in on at my house).
