I have a new phone number and did something really stupid, I called the 495 toll company to complain about a ticket and I gave them my cell phone number "in case they lost connection with me."  They dropped the ticket after reviewing the video that showed I clearly paid the toll but three days later (today) this number called me twice.  I have not given this number to anyone except for the 495 toll folks, they are clearly selling information.

Thanks everyone for posting the info you know about this annoying phone number.  Since it isn't a 1-800 number, the local exchange made it seem that 410-721-0500 is a legit number.  I'm glad I Googled the number.  And no, I have not applied for state or federal assistance so they must get people's numbers another way.

I doubt the Gov is selling people's contact info. Are you a shill for WB&A trying to put all the blame on the Gov? I blame big business for buying the political votes to exempt surveys from the DoNotCall Registry. Let's focus on stopping *ALL* unwanted telephone solicitations instead of simply misdirecting our anger at the Gov.

The real problem is that the Government is sell your personal information to commercial enterprise for their own gain. The focus should be that and not the company calling you.Did you apply for any of the State assistance program or Federal. If you apply for food stamps, heath care plans/Kaiser Permanente plan, unemployment Compensation Benefit, disability benefits  and etc... if you did, at some point you will get calls from those private commercial enterprises. All the time, every day and night...!I first got calls from 410-721-0500 & 607-330-5304  just after I lost my job and I applied for food stamps...  My personal information was sold first to WB&A Market Research, a private company and then WB&A sold it to other companies. They got the information from my state government agencies, which was the only place that had my new cell number. It didn't help me at the end of the month at all, having all those extra phone calls on time like this... Should the U.S. have stricter laws against this...

This number is a market research company.  They do not leave messages because they are only able to place outbound calls, and if you were to call it, you would be directed to the receptionist during hours and the call center manager after hours, and they would tell you in return that someone will have to call you back.  Market research is exempt from the National Do Not Call List since it is market research they are calling about not to sell anything, soliciting, or telemarketing.  They do several research studies on behalf of AAA, Health Insurance companies, Claims Processing companies, and many others.

caller said he was Special Agent Mark Waller from DEA and that "Mary Lou, you need to call me back immediately regarding an ongoing online illegal drug purchases investigation that you have been involved with.  Call me back at my direct number of 330-775-2680 immediately today" that was at 5:16 PM on Monday February 4, 2013.  I returned the call at 11:10 AM on Tuesday February 5, 2013 and the guy started to tell me that I needed to pay the fines to them immediately or the DEA would be at my home to arrest me within the hours.  I refused to give him MY name and said that there is NO MARY LOU at this number or my home and he insisted on wanting to know MY name, and I said I wasn't going to give it, and he said "Why what do YOU have to hide?? I WILL FIND OUT AND THEN YOU'LL BE IN TROUBLE WITH HER TOO"! I said if you're really the DEA then you should know that there is no reason for me to give you MY name and that I have nothing to hide so you can check me out all you want. He started to get smart and called me *itch, and I hung up.  Thought to look the number up as a possible real DEA office in Massillon, OH (where my caller ID said number was showing from) to see who I could report THEM to, and after talking with a Police Officer from Massillon, OH, reported the conversation and phone number, and he stated that that is NOT a number from their area, not is there a DEA office in Massillon, OH but he would check it out to see if he could track these people down for SCAM AND FRAUD, and further advised me NOT TO PAY ANY MONIES TO THESE PEOPLE, NOR GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION TO THEM.  He also suggested that I contact the Attorney General's Office to advise them of these people calling and impersonating a DEA Agent!

I just received a call from 330-775-2680 and almost fell for it as well.   He claimed to be Agent Mark Waller from the DEA in Ohio and left a message.  I called back and he went on to explain that I had Federal charges pending which could result in 5-7 years in prison or a probation at the very least.  But that I could be transferred to the "dismissals department" to see what could be done.  Then after a couple of minutes another voice got on the line explaining that this could be resolved similar to a traffic fine and that the Prosecutor could review my case ...they still had me going UNTIL they said that if I paid the fine that this could all get behind me but..here it is...how soon could I be at my bank...then the red flags started going up.   I told him I would have no funds until payday (I was still palm sweating scared at this point after being threatened for immediate arrest and having DEA agents storm my house).   The "dismissals agent", Jimmy Fox told me that he would have a tap put on my phone until he called me back...still scared at this point but starting to be a little skeptical.   but he grudgingly agreed to "pend the case" but that I better answer when he calls back.   Well, now I know he's a fake and that this was all a scam that I will be reporting. Online pharmacies are a scam...do NOT EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ever ever use an online pharmacy..  I was stupid enough to fall the for online pharmacy once several years ago ...it was a dumb mistake and as a result, got the hell scared out of me today.

I told him I needed to talk to my lawyer before I discussed anything further and that made him combative and cagey. He said I was going to have to go to court and I would be getting paperwork in the mail. He ended up hanging up on me because I was onto his b***s***. We'll see if the paperwork shows up. I actually called the DEA tip line at 877 792 2873 and described what had happened. They set this hotline up for this scam. I didn't call them back, but they called me...told them who I had spoke to and was told by the real thing that they are a bunch scumbags.  Don't fall for this...it is extoration and it's against the law...report them!  Now they have called again...jeez...not falling for it this time...not returning their call!

Prescription Drug Scam Uses DEA Agents' Identities To Terrify Victims into Paying UpThe websites seem so simple, so inviting -- buy prescription diet pills or sleep-aids without a prescription. But it could be a trap. A few clicks on certain websites can lead to phone calls that sound like this: "This is officer James Kashin. If you and your wife don't call me back you are going to jail." Or this: "This is special agent David Brown. We are going to bring you in, in custody, with criminal charges for medication from overseas." It's all part of an elaborate scam, including the alleged law enforcement phone calls. According to DEA officials, criminal scam artists first sell prescription drugs online through websites they sometimes operate. After customers input their personal information and make a purchase, the criminals can use the information to blackmail and extort them. Scammers pose as federal drug enforcement agents, even use actual agents' names, when they make threatening phone calls to thoroughly scare their marks, but then the fake agents offer their victims a lifeline. The caller tells his victims that they have a choice -- either they pay up by a certain deadline and their names will be cleared, or they will be charged as suspects in a criminal investigation and face jail time. "Basically he wanted me to pay $1,500," said Kesha Howell, a victim of the scam. "He's got you in such a panic state that by the time he offers you the money, I mean really, that's a no-brainer. Just tell me how much and if I can afford to do it, I'm in," said Darren Dutil, another victim. Victims of this scam say the phone calls sound authentic and are genuinely terrifying because the person on the other end has all of their personal information. "He was very calm, cool, but very intimidating. He knew things about me. He had legit information on me and that's what was so scary," Howell said. "I was ready to call my wife and kids and say, 'hey look, see you all later. I'm obviously going to be gone for a while,'" Dutil said. Another victim, who didn't want his name revealed, said he got a call from the scammers and fake DEA agents actually showed up at his house in suburban Fort Worth, Texas. "They pulled up in a black SUV, right there at the driveway. Two white males got outside, stood beside the truck, and a slender 5-10, 5-11 black male came toward me with black wavy hair," he said. In the end, he said he didn't fall for the scam, but he admitted he came close. But Carolyn Sirek, a legal secretary from Joshua, Texas, fell into the trap and accepted the buyout option after receiving the scamming calls. According to her husband Dan Sirek, Carolyn went into a local Wal-Mart and wired the scammers the money through Western Union. "It depleted our savings account, let's put it that way," Dan Sirek said. Very often, after one payment, the scammers come back for more. Carolyn Sirek was apparently so upset and scared about what happened that she shot and killed herself in her backyard. Her husband said he found her with a bullet hole in her chest. Thousands of victims, many of whom have paid the scammers, have called the DEA hotline for help. Officials believe several of these people have shelled out thousands of dollars in the extortion and that the operation is being run out of the Dominican Republic. The DEA has indicted 11 Dominican men, but as of yet, those men have not been arrested. Agents told ABC News they are working with the Dominican government to have the suspects extradited to the United States, and are investigating other groups operating similar scams. The DEA advises that anyone who gets a threatening phone call to hang up and report it and also warns Americans to be very, very wary of online pharmacies. "I think that's one of the takeaways for people to understand, that buying over the Internet for controlled substances is highly suspicious, and they should be very cautious about trying to do that," said DEA agent Gary Boggs. If the 11 men who have been indicted are charged, they face 20 years in prison. Dan Sirek, who lost his wife, thinks they should get the death penalty. "Our relationship is probably something that only comes along once in a lifetime, and I hope they move fast and get these people so nobody else gets hurt," he said.http://abcnews.go.com/US/prescription-drug-sc ... ory?id=16116808

ALERT - EXTORTION SCAM - ALERTDEA Warns Public of Extortion Scam by DEA Special Agent ImpersonatorsThe Drug Enforcement Administration is warning the public about criminals posing as DEA special agents or other law enforcement personnel as part of an international extortion scheme. The criminals call the victims (who in most cases previously purchased drugs over the lnternet or by telephone) and identify themselves as DEA agents or law enforcement officials from other agencies.  The impersonators inform their victims that purchasing drugs over the lnternet or by telephone is illegal, and that enforcement action will be taken against them unless they pay a fine.  In most cases, the impersonators instruct their victims to pay the "fine" via wire transfer to a designated location, usually overseas.  If victims refuse to send money, the impersonators often threaten to arrest them or search their property.  Some victims who purchased their drugs using a credit card also reported fraudulent use of their credit cards.Impersonating a federal agent is a violation of federal law.  The public should be aware that no DEA agent will ever contact members of the public by telephone to demand money or any other form of payment. The DEA reminds the public to use caution when purchasing controlled substance pharmaceuticals by telephone or through the Internet.  It is illegal to purchase controlled substance pharmaceuticals online or by telephone unless very stringent requirements are met.  And, all pharmacies that dispense controlled substance pharmaceuticals by means of the lnternet must be registered with DEA.  By ordering any pharmaceutical medications online or by telephone from unknown entities, members of the public risk receiving unsafe, counterfeit, and/or ineffective drugs from criminals who operate outside the law.  In addition, personal and financial information could be compromised.Anyone receiving a telephone call from a person purporting to be a DEA special agent or other law enforcement official seeking money should refuse the demand and report the threat.Report Extortion Scam: 1-877-792-2873http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/pubs/pressreleases/extortion_scam.htm

Got the same phone call at home and then on my cell phone while i was shopping.  Told me the same thing that I purchased illegal drugs from Mexico pharmicudical in 2006.  Tried to get me to say I did and I wouldn't, because I hadn't.  Told me that he didn't like my attitude.  I told him I had done nothing wrong, and he told me that I would have federal government would be bringing charges against me and I hung up on him. We need to all contact real DEA and let them know about this.  We talk to Special Agent Mark Waller out of Akron, Ohio.

This is the 2nd call I got from the DEA imposters.  The first time, I was actually purchasing the wire transfer when my husband came into the store and yelled out...dont do it...It's a SCAM.  Apparently he made some phone calls to the DEA and they told him to go and stop me before I sent out the money via Western Union.  The imposters told me I was going to be in jail a long time unless I paid them money right away..I was going to send $500.00.  They had me in tears and I was shaking like a leaf...I put my husband on the phone and they had a screaming match.  The real DEA said they would never, never do their business like this and it' s a complete fraud. I didn't call them back, but they called me...told them who I had spoke to and was told by the real thing that they are a bunch scumbags.  Don't fall for this...it is extoration and it's against the law...report them!  Now they have called again...jeez...not falling for it this time...not returning their call!

So, so sad about Carolyn.  My heart goes out to her husband & family.  I received a call from this jerk's "DEA Partner Robert Champion" who said I would be arrested within the hour, the U.S. customs had 2 felony charges against me, pay up or go to jail basically--and it was scary.  I was also shaking like a leaf by the time it was all said & done, and got a migraine on top of all of that.  I ALMOST fell for it, but thank goodness I looked up the number 806 494-5963, and found all this info.  I can understand how upset Carolyn was, and I was only going to be out $500.  I hope these scam jerks burn in hell!
