Calls with no sound.  If the government is truly serious about solving the debt crisis, put the government resources currently slothing at the government trough, and have them start fining the people behind these illegal phone calls.   I would say 1% of the population gets one of these a day.

CBE group - Debt Collection companyThey also call from 319-242-7343 and 515-954-7688They are Dish Networks Collection agency. They are calling me for not returning a 3 year old remote control, when I cancelled my dish service after 15 years of loyalty. Their piece of crap remote broke 4 months after we got it, but it was no longer in the 90 day warranty period and they wouldnt replace it, so I threw it out and bought a $10 universal that worked better anyway. Then when I canceled my service because they wanted to charge me a ridiculous amount to upgrade to hopper (which new customers get for free, but customers from 1996 have to pay for) I cancelled my service. They want me to send back all my recievers, the sattlelite from the roof, and all my remotes. I didnt return the piece of crap that broke (because I threw it away), so now I am getting charged for it, and their Nazi Spanglish collection agency calls my cell phone twice a day including Sundays. Shows you what loyalty gets you with this company.

Caller ID gives this number 816-659-1047 and under that it reads, "The CBE Group." They didn’t start talking right away but I could hear someone breathing so I pressed the # button and held it down for about 15-20 seconds. That will remove your number from an auto dialer but I'm hoping this person decided my number was no good.

You can still collect disability benefits when working.  Contact your local Work Incentives Coordinator (there assistance is free); they work closely with SSA to help determine what your income threshold can be at maximum before your benefits are affected, most part time work under say... $700 a month won't effect the benefits but that figure changes.Ticket to Work is a real program.  It is an incentive program offered by SSA for individuals on SSI/SSDI to encourage them to go back to work without suffering the loss of their benefits.  If you have questions about TTW, contact your local SSA office or Maximus- they are the authorized agency that coordinates the TTW program- for further information on what providers are authorized receivers of the program. As for NTI, I am currently working with VR representatives to determine whether this is a legit operation.Hope this helps everyone.

offer to work from home up to 20 hours weekly $9.00 an hour and still collect dia\sability is this legit?????

617-202-9449

10 Report Long ago Unknown
They are legit through Maximus, the coordinator of Ticket to Work, which is a sub program of SSA.  They do not have access to your medical records, that is a violation of federal HIPAA laws, but they, as an authorized agency under Ticket to Work, do have access to eligible individuals receiving SSI/SSDI benefits that are between the ages of 18-64.No rights were violated when this "non profit" received lists of names of individuals receiving SSA.As for SSA caseworkers not knowing about NTI, it is not because of poor government communication.  It is because Maximus manages the Ticket to Work Program and is the go-to for all questions related to going back to work.  Maximus also manages the authorized agencies that are acceptable to handling the tickets.  SSA benefits reads your medical records, determines eligibility, submits TTW info to Maximus and cuts your check monthly and occasionally does reviews.

NTI calling about work from home. Might be legit but I have serious reservations.Their web presence is fresh. Not even two solid pages of references for the URL's on Google, at least two of which contain viral Iframe exploits. Some of the Google references are nothing more than search engine/spider links. Just like they materialized out of nowhere yesterday and no one seems to know them. Both the NTI and mytickettoworkathome.org sites are well written, but my paranoia kicks in when a website offers anything "work from home," when they associate themselves with any government agency, when they make claims speaking for a government agency... and the government agency apparently doesn't have any knowledge of them. Government agencies are not known for their communication skills however. This could be legit and they could possibly be clueless at SSA... or not.I can't find anything grossly wrong with this other than they have either bought or been given personal information of disabled persons, which as a matter of disability is part of medical records and access for commercial use is supposed to be forbidden. The phone number from which they called had few Google references as though their phone service suddenly materialized overnight. Just like the web sites. The whole thing has a funny smell. If this is legitimate it needs a much better approach than presenting the exact same appearance as a billion other "work from home" schemes that are nothing more than advance-fee scams or identity theft rings. What. other than a claim of association with the SSA, makes these folks special enough they can score work at home jobs that legit temp agents can't get you?Anyone who takes the time to apply for this should watch for two things...If they ever ask for any sort of registration fee, or any money up front for any reason... Typical scams give reasons like 'training materials' or 'security screening fee' or deposits for pretty much anything. If they ask for money at ANY point... Run do not walk, away.If they ask for a credit card number, SSN, etc... "To verify your identity," and will not take the information through a SSA rep that you trust, then it could be an identity theft scheme. Never give your personal information to anyone you don't know, even if they seem to already know parts of it and seem to be legitimate. Don't fall for the "please verify that you live at... etc"If these folks are legit, there will be a venue for application through the SSA. If they don't then don't assume this is because the SSA is a bumbling government agency. Don't accept, "well word may not have gotten around yet to your caseworker..." This is a very standard ploy for suspending doubt in a potential scam victim. Either your caseworker knows them (officially) or they don't.I am a volunteer for an anti-fraud online activist group. I have seen too many people hurt by websites that seem just as legitimate. Go through your SSA caseworker. Do not trust that anyone is telling the truth just because they claim to be associated with a government agency and don't assume they have your interests at heart just because they are all warm and fuzzy about helping disabled people. The ugly fact is that the disabled and elderly are the largest portion of a scam artists payday. Sympathy with your plight is a typical con-man approach. "I'm on your side... I wouldn't hurt you... you can trust me."Be careful out there with you personal info and your money.

Same thing happened to me but I was home alone so I didn't have anyone there and I was sooo scared! I was crying and hiding. I still don't know who did it but it was beyond scary and as soon as I find out who it is they are in for a mouthful. My mom was in a different state when this happened and I called her and told her what happened and she said to lock all the windows and doors and to hide. She immediently left her meeting to fly back to be with me. It was the scariest time of my life and it was like 3 am here but it was 8 am where she was. I was just so glad when she finally made it back. I have never been so terrified in my life. Trust me, I know how you feel. I just hope that the creator gets sued for making an app that could potentially harm people. And that the app will be shut down so no one else has to go through the pain I did.

This number continually harassed me at my office. I explained that this was my work number and I could not spend time with them on the phone, as I had a job to do. The caller responded that he too, was at work. Extremely rude, then called my home number, and will not stop. Asked that I return the call to an 800 number, contrary to the caller id.

The FTC enters consumer complaints into the Consumer Sentinel Network, a secure online database and investigative tool used by hundreds of civil and criminal law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and abroad.Debt Collection FAQs: A Guide for ConsumersIf you’re behind in paying your bills, or a creditor’s records mistakenly make it appear that you are, a debt collector may be contacting you. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, enforces the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), which prohibits debt collectors from using abusive, unfair, or deceptive practices to collect from you.Under the FDCPA, a debt collector is someone who regularly collects debts owed to others. This includes collection agencies, lawyers who collect debts on a regular basis, and companies that buy delinquent debts and then try to collect them. Here are some questions and answers about your rights under the Act.What types of debts are covered? The Act covers personal, family, and household debts, including money you owe on a personal credit card account, an auto loan, a medical bill, and your mortgage. The FDCPA doesn’t cover debts you incurred to run a business. Can a debt collector contact me any time or any place? No. A debt collector may not contact you at inconvenient times or places, such as before 8 in the morning or after 9 at night, unless you agree to it. And collectors may not contact you at work if they’re told (orally or in writing) that you’re not allowed to get calls there. How can I stop a debt collector from contacting me?If a collector contacts you about a debt, you may want to talk to them at least once to see if you can resolve the matter – even if you don’t think you owe the debt, can’t repay it immediately, or think that the collector is contacting you by mistake. If you decide after contacting the debt collector that you don’t want the collector to contact you again, tell the collector – in writing – to stop contacting you. Here’s how to do that:Make a copy of your letter. Send the original by certified mail, and pay for a “return receipt” so you’ll be able to document what the collector received. Once the collector receives your letter, they may not contact you again, with two exceptions: a collector can contact you to tell you there will be no further contact or to let you know that they or the creditor intend to take a specific action, like filing a lawsuit. Sending such a letter to a debt collector you owe money to does not get rid of the debt, but it should stop the contact. The creditor or the debt collector still can sue you to collect the debt. Can a debt collector contact anyone else about my debt?If an attorney is representing you about the debt, the debt collector must contact the attorney, rather than you. If you don’t have an attorney, a collector may contact other people – but only to find out your address, your home phone number, and where you work. Collectors usually are prohibited from contacting third parties more than once. Other than to obtain this location information about you, a debt collector generally is not permitted to discuss your debt with anyone other than you, your spouse, or your attorney. What does the debt collector have to tell me about the debt? Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money. Can a debt collector keep contacting me if I don’t think I owe any money? If you send the debt collector a letter stating that you don’t owe any or all of the money, or asking for verification of the debt, that collector must stop contacting you. You have to send that letter within 30 days after you receive the validation notice. But a collector can begin contacting you again if it sends you written verification of the debt, like a copy of a bill for the amount you owe. What practices are off limits for debt collectors?Harassment. Debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse you or any third parties they contact. For example, they may not:use threats of violence or harm; publish a list of names of people who refuse to pay their debts (but they can give this information to the credit reporting companies); use obscene or profane language; or repeatedly use the phone to annoy someone. False statements. Debt collectors may not lie when they are trying to collect a debt. For example, they may not:falsely claim that they are attorneys or government representatives; falsely claim that you have committed a crime; falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit reporting company; misrepresent the amount you owe; indicate that papers they send you are legal forms if they aren’t; or indicate that papers they send to you aren’t legal forms if they are. Debt collectors also are prohibited from saying that:you will be arrested if you don’t pay your debt; they’ll seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages unless they are permitted by law to take the action and intend to do so; or legal action will be taken against you, if doing so would be illegal or if they don’t intend to take the action. Debt collectors may not:give false credit information about you to anyone, including a credit reporting company; send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency if it isn’t; or use a false company name. Unfair practices. Debt collectors may not engage in unfair practices when they try to collect a debt. For example, they may not:try to collect any interest, fee, or other charge on top of the amount you owe unless the contract that created your debt – or your state law – allows the charge; deposit a post-dated check early; take or threaten to take your property unless it can be done legally; or contact you by postcard. Can I control which debts my payments apply to? Yes. If a debt collector is trying to collect more than one debt from you, the collector must apply any payment you make to the debt you select. Equally important, a debt collector may not apply a payment to a debt you don’t think you owe.Can a debt collector garnish my bank account or my wages? If you don’t pay a debt, a creditor or its debt collector generally can sue you to collect. If they win, the court will enter a judgment against you. The judgment states the amount of money you owe, and allows the creditor or collector to get a garnishment order against you, directing a third party, like your bank, to turn over funds from your account to pay the debt. Wage garnishment happens when your employer withholds part of your compensation to pay your debts. Your wages usually can be garnished only as the result of a court order. Don’t ignore a lawsuit summons. If you do, you lose the opportunity to fight a wage garnishment. Can federal benefits be garnished? Many federal benefits are exempt from garnishment, including: Social Security Benefits Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Benefits Veterans’ Benefits Civil Service and Federal Retirement and Disability Benefits Service Members’ Pay Military Annuities and Survivors’ Benefits Student Assistance Railroad Retirement Benefits Merchant Seamen Wages Longshoremen’s and Harbor Workers’ Death and Disability Benefits Foreign Service Retirement and Disability Benefits Compensation for Injury, Death, or Detention of Employees of U.S. Contractors Outside the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency Federal Disaster Assistance But federal benefits may be garnished under certain circumstances, including to pay delinquent taxes, alimony, child support, or student loans. Do I have any recourse if I think a debt collector has violated the law? You have the right to sue a collector in a state or federal court within one year from the date the law was violated. If you win, the judge can require the collector to pay you for any damages you can prove you suffered because of the illegal collection practices, like lost wages and medical bills. The judge can require the debt collector to pay you up to $1,000, even if you can’t prove that you suffered actual damages. You also can be reimbursed for your attorney’s fees and court costs. A group of people also may sue a debt collector as part of a class action lawsuit and recover money for damages up to $500,000, or one percent of the collector’s net worth, whichever amount is lower. Even if a debt collector violates the FDCPA in trying to collect a debt, the debt does not go away if you owe it.What should I do if a debt collector sues me?If a debt collector files a lawsuit against you to collect a debt, respond to the lawsuit, either personally or through your lawyer, by the date specified in the court papers to preserve your rights. Where do I report a debt collector for an alleged violation?Report any problems you have with a debt collector to your state Attorney General’s office (www.naag.org) and the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov). Many states have their own debt collection laws that are different from the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Your Attorney General’s office can help you determine your rights under your state’s law.For More InformationTo learn more about debt collection and other credit-related issues, visit www.ftc.gov/credit and MyMoney.gov, the U.S. government’s portal to financial education.

That is indeed correct!  We have been fighting with this "firm" since 2006 and now our credit report has been scarred by this fictious debt that this firm has yet to prove actually exists.  In fact, the debt that they claim that we owe is beyond the statute of limitations for collection.  We have even had an attorney involved and yet they still continue to harrass us with phone calls.  Why they can continue to "legally" conduct this type of business is beyond me.  Why any one with any type of conscious could work for an organization just floors me.

This is, in fact, the number of P. Scott Lowery, P.C., Attorneys at Law. They a law firm that specialize in third party collections. They buy debt that has been uncollectable by the original credit grantor, written off by the original grantor, and sent to a collection agency who has an agreement to pay a percentage to the original credit grantor if they collect any monies. Lowerys office buys uncollected debt from the second party collectors for about 20 to 25 percent of the original debt. Make a settlement offer accordingly.
